Someone told me that they have an album that is slightly rockier sounding than the others. Can someone tell me which one it is?

Their style changed dramatically over the years, but all of their albums had a variety of styles on them.

There are no particularly rock based albums, although later albums such as the White Album and Abbey Road had some rockier tracks.

Not really. Like most of their albums there is a bit of what we'd call rock, but there are all manner of styles on it, including Yellow Submarine!

If the OP is looking for pure rock, then there all manner of bands to look at rather than The Beatles. The Beatles excelled at what they were, which was ground breaking, influential music of all types.

There was a compilation released a few years after they split up called Rock 'n Roll music, which consisted of some of their rockier tracks from throughout their career, which could be what the OP meant.

I think it could be Abbey Road that was being described, especially the long segue on side two. There are also some beautiful ballads too, including the exquisite Because.

On the other hand, in Helter Skelter on The White Album, they created one of the most extreme rock tracks ever produced.

Helter Skelter, Revolution and I Want You (Shes So Heavy) are probably the heaviest tracks they did.

I only ever liked about three tracks by The Stones. Very one-dimensional compared to The Beatles and I always hated Jagger's American "rawk" style of singing.

This! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ-FsBvz4i8

A Day In The Life for some heavy prog rock.

Both are utterly feeble though through computer speakers, they need a good home hifi setup.

There are loads of others, Come Together is quite rocky!

The Beatles were a pop band that became psychedelic during their mid period (their album Revolver was the first example of this) and influenced many other up and coming bands at the time, not least Pink Floyd.

The Stones were basically an R&B band with an attitude that dabbled in pop, and annoyed the Mums and Dads in the '60s. Over time the Beatles were far more influential but the Stones also wrote some very good and original songs as well. But somehow they seemed to hang onto the coat tails of the Beatles. Eg the Beatles released the psychedelic Sgt Pepper then the Stones tried to emulate them with the awful Satanic Majesties Request album with its psychedelic theme which was a one-off for them fortunately.

If we're talking Rock 'n' Roll (in the original 1950's sense of the term) then from the earlier albums:-

I Saw Her Standing There
(album: Please Please Me)

Roll Over Beethoven
Money
I Wanna Be Your Man
(album: With The Beatles)

Rock 'n' Roll Music
Kansas City / Hey Hey Hey Hey
Honey Don't
(album: Beatles For Sale)

I'm Down
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
(album: Help!)

If we're talking Rock as we now understand the term, then all the tracks that other posters have previously mentioned, which are from the later albums.

A good shout for all of those, plus Twist and Shout, Hey Bulldog and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band.

John Lennon recorded the album Rock and Roll in 1975. He made the most rocky ones amongst the Beatles although Paul was also a great one for rock music. Just listen to Paul singing Long Tall Sally and Kansas City, neither of which has been mentioned.

The Beatles wrote and played such a diversity of music that I don't see how anyone could say that they hate the Beatles or not like any of their work.

Have you actually listened to everything the Beatles have made to have made such a sweeping statement? I very much doubt it. Your quote is very profound.

i would say that anyone is entitled to not like the Beatles if they wish, but to say that they are overrated shows a lack of knowledge of popular music. The only artist who can come close to having the influence of the Beatles is Bob Dylan. Without them, popular music today would be completely diifferent. To understand their influence, perhaps you had to be around at the time, but the release of a new Beatles album was a huge event and its influence would be heard in subsequent releases by all sorts of bands. I love the Stones too, but even they attempted to copy the Beatles with 'Their satanic majesties request'.

surely the person who told you that can tell you?

they could be thinking of abbey road, of which the "naked" version without the phil spector overdubs is possibly more rocky but this thread shows different folk have different ideas of what is rockier so best to ask the person who told you that

Do you mean Let It Be?

As I mentioned earlier, there was an album called Rock N Roll music released many years ago, and I'm not sure you can still get it easily.

It contained rock music from their entire career, but even that changed from the early 50s style rock n roll to later interpretations of rock music.

There was 'Let it Be', which was more basic and quite rough in parts. It has three tracks that I'd class as rock: One after 909, I me Mine and Get back. They're not classic heavy rock, but they are rocky. I like One after 909 for its old fashioned simplicity.

And of course the White Album's Back in the USSR - good fun, witty lyrics.

It's Let It Be that had the "Naked" version which stripped away the Phil Spector overdubs.

I agree totally with the above. It's ok to say that you don't like the Beatles music but to not realise the influence they had over most bands that have come later is just burying your head in the sand. Most later bands and artists will say how much the Beatles influenced them and still be playing their music today. I agree that The Beatles and Bob Dylan had the most influence on music as we know it today. Queen who have also had a lot of influence were also great fans of The Beatles as were the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.

There are no artists who are not disliked by some people. We're all different after all. But "like" is subjective. Influence, etc., is objective. People often use their dislike of something to make invalid factual assertions about it.

One After 909 was an old song. They did do a version back in 1963 but it was unreleased until the Anthology project. I think its a better version than the Let It Be one.
