The Beatles
Someone told me that they have an album that is slightly rockier sounding than the others. Can someone tell me which one it is?

Their style changed dramatically over the years, but all of their albums had a variety of styles on them.
There are no particularly rock based albums, although later albums such as the White Album and Abbey Road had some rockier tracks. |

![]() I hate The Beatles... the OP should check out The Rolling Stones, man! ![]() If the OP is looking for pure rock, then there all manner of bands to look at rather than The Beatles. The Beatles excelled at what they were, which was ground breaking, influential music of all types. There was a compilation released a few years after they split up called Rock 'n Roll music, which consisted of some of their rockier tracks from throughout their career, which could be what the OP meant. |

I think it could be Abbey Road that was being described, especially the long segue on side two. There are also some beautiful ballads too, including the exquisite Because.
On the other hand, in Helter Skelter on The White Album, they created one of the most extreme rock tracks ever produced. |

Helter Skelter, Revolution and I Want You (Shes So Heavy) are probably the heaviest tracks they did.

I only ever liked about three tracks by The Stones. Very one-dimensional compared to The Beatles and I always hated Jagger's American "rawk" style of singing.

Both are utterly feeble though through computer speakers, they need a good home hifi setup. There are loads of others, Come Together is quite rocky! |

I'm more of a Stones sorta guy
![]() ![]() The Stones were basically an R&B band with an attitude that dabbled in pop, and annoyed the Mums and Dads in the '60s. Over time the Beatles were far more influential but the Stones also wrote some very good and original songs as well. But somehow they seemed to hang onto the coat tails of the Beatles. Eg the Beatles released the psychedelic Sgt Pepper then the Stones tried to emulate them with the awful Satanic Majesties Request album with its psychedelic theme which was a one-off for them fortunately. |

If we're talking Rock 'n' Roll (in the original 1950's sense of the term) then from the earlier albums:-
I Saw Her Standing There (album: Please Please Me) Roll Over Beethoven Money I Wanna Be Your Man (album: With The Beatles) Rock 'n' Roll Music Kansas City / Hey Hey Hey Hey Honey Don't (album: Beatles For Sale) I'm Down Dizzy Miss Lizzy (album: Help!) If we're talking Rock as we now understand the term, then all the tracks that other posters have previously mentioned, which are from the later albums. |

John Lennon recorded the album Rock and Roll in 1975. He made the most rocky ones amongst the Beatles although Paul was also a great one for rock music. Just listen to Paul singing Long Tall Sally and Kansas City, neither of which has been mentioned.
The Beatles wrote and played such a diversity of music that I don't see how anyone could say that they hate the Beatles or not like any of their work. |

i would say that anyone is entitled to not like the Beatles if they wish, but to say that they are overrated shows a lack of knowledge of popular music. The only artist who can come close to having the influence of the Beatles is Bob Dylan. Without them, popular music today would be completely diifferent. To understand their influence, perhaps you had to be around at the time, but the release of a new Beatles album was a huge event and its influence would be heard in subsequent releases by all sorts of bands. I love the Stones too, but even they attempted to copy the Beatles with 'Their satanic majesties request'.

they could be thinking of abbey road, of which the "naked" version without the phil spector overdubs is possibly more rocky but this thread shows different folk have different ideas of what is rockier so best to ask the person who told you that |

It contained rock music from their entire career, but even that changed from the early 50s style rock n roll to later interpretations of rock music. |

There was 'Let it Be', which was more basic and quite rough in parts. It has three tracks that I'd class as rock: One after 909, I me Mine and Get back. They're not classic heavy rock, but they are rocky. I like One after 909 for its old fashioned simplicity.
And of course the White Album's Back in the USSR - good fun, witty lyrics. |
