EastEnders to introduce new gay character in next few months
So I was at the Student Pride talk yesterday and DTC announced as well as planning to introduce a transgender character he also has recently just cast someone to play a new gay character. As some are in disbelief it is in this video:
https://twitter.com/studentpride/sta...34817034924033 The whole debate is a very interesting one so if you have time watch/listen to the whole thing. @ 43:58 DTC talks about Johnny's coming out scene with Mick @ 45:33 For the actual proof |

They definitely need someone to shack up with Ben. I'd love to see the dynamic of Phil with a gay son in law. Maybe someone really camp who we'd assume Phil would absolutely hate but they actually form quite a fondness for each other and get on well.

Its Paul Coker for sure. I bet the plan was to pair him with Johnny but he will probably get with Ben now and make Abi go even more psycho! lol

I think it's a great idea to bring a new gay character to balance the loss of Johnny, although obviously they have to be good characters apart from just being gay, I can't wait to see this new character, I'm hoping it's the Coker's grandson too!

Hopefully Paul Coker. Someone to wean Ben off his asexuality.

It probably is Paul now.
I don't think Sharon's brother is gay though I guess we can't rule him out though. |

It'd break down the stereotyping a bit too

Because i remember the thread that was created when the actor was announced, and the person who created it claimed he was a ladies man. I don't know whether they made that up or they read that, but many other articles have not described the character as a ladies man but described him as someone who is "comfortable with who he is". |

A DS writer posted in the other thread that there was no mention of Paul being a ladies man in the official BBC press release. I think the source that said it was just making assumptions.

I got the impression Paul is gay from the press release. They were very careful not to specify gender when they said about him making impressions on a certain resident
