A couple of cheap R820T sticks - one is unbranded, the other is Nooelec. Both work OK as SDR, but when paired with any DVB software either aren't detected or, if detected, don't find any signal. And we have plenty of signal here!

If you've used zadig to install a driver for SDR, it probably won't work with DVB software. I use a NooElec dongle for SDR and it isn't detected (by DVB software). Use zadig to reverse any changes you made and then install drivers for DVB. It's too much messing around really, so I use other dongles for DVB.

Further to the above, there has been a report in the changelog this morning of Radio Leeds, Radio Lincolnshire and Radio Derby being available on Freeview in the Sheffield area.

Starting to look like the areas previously mentioned have gone live, plus the local radio stations in those areas have been carried outside - e.g. the oddity of BBC Derby appearing in Sheffield and the West Midlands without the other local ones popping up

Only have a WinTV USB to get terrestrial TV as my TV is via satellite, but it can now get from presumably Winter Hill, BBC Radio Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria & Stoke, quite good to have this service! BBC Cumbria is almost impossible to receive here apart from via the internet (weakly get it on AM and parts of the Wirral it can actually be got from 96.1 which is presumably aimed at the Barrow in Furness area so it's a genuine extra choice. They were test streams only when I added them to DVBViewer software so I had to rename them.

Stations added in the last phase seem to have been added to neighbouring regions where the LCN will be same in each region. Although, for example, Norwich and Nottingham are now live in their editorial regions but didn't get added to Belmont when Radio Lincolnshire went live (so will possibly by allocated different LCNs). Not very consistent, launch by lottery perhaps?

As mentioned a page or so back Three Counties has appeared on Beckley (Oxford) but nothing else.

BBC Stoke

Cannot confirm channel numbers

For those of you like me who don't know the full names read:
719 BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire
720 BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester

In the best tradition of DS nitpicking, I feel compelled to point out that neither station has the word "radio" in its name.

They are:

719. BBC C&W
720 BBC H&W
721. BBC Shropshire
734.BBC Stoke

722 BBC Radio WM

They still haven't fixed the MHEG names though!

It will be a shame if some stations have different LCNs on adjacent transmitter groups. Not that it matters when you are listening but it makes things more messy when promoting a channel.

Confirmed today by BBC that Local Radio stations launching on Tuesday 14 June in West Midlands, South (inc Oxford), West & South West regions

http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/news/item104

Also aware that stations in North East & Cumbria are scheduled for Tuesday 21 June so I anticipate that North West & Yorkshire/Lincs (both Emley Moor and Belmont groups) will also be slated for that date.

They launch on June 14th? As I mentioned the other day, I did a retune the other day and got all 5 from the Wrekin plus Derby from Sutton!

Did I just get lucky and retune during a test or are the BBC early?

Well, it couldn't happen with the LCNs originally allocated. The next batch of launches shows Radio Solent being shunted from LCN 719 to LCN 722 in the South with Radio Berkshire taking LCN 719. It looks as if the BBC are trying to have a unique LCN for each station. It will be interesting to see what happens with the subsequent batch.

No doubt some users will find their TVs leaving Radio Solent on LCN 719 and shunting Radio Berkshire to the 800s as 719 is already in use. Fun times ahead.

North West, North East & Cumbria, Kendal?, Emley Moor, Sheffield & Chesterfield and Belmont groups should be in that batch. I would have thought that the Channel Islands launch would also be included in the 14th June batch but apparently not...

It's a shame that the BBC didn't take the opportunity to re-engineer the Hannington transport stream, as they have done at Ridge Hill, the Wrekin SFN, Kendal and Sheffield/Chesterfield. It would have allowed a better match of local radio stations across the Thames Valley.

Some stations duplicated over several regions launched simultaneously in each region (such as Radio Derby). The Wrekin jumped the gun and launched early, possibly to allow live testing of the new TSID configuration.

Bizarre that on Ridge Hill they are carrying BBC Coventry & Warwickshire on 719. Would have been better if BBC Bristol was there instead, given Ridge Hill's reach into parts of South Gloucestershire that can't get Mendip.

Presumably a case of giving priority to local radio stations within the same editorial region. Ridge Hill and BBC C&W are in the BBC West Midlands editorial region, BBC Bristol isn't. As the BBC state on the website, they "had to make a judgement call as to which stations to carry". A significant proportion of Radio Leicester's coverage falls within the Sutton Coldfield region and they aren't able to accommodate that either.

No doubt the eventual transition to DVB-T2 will give more elbow room to squeeze in a few more stations.

Where is the editorial boundary between Gloucestershire and Bristol? I'd guess there is also a case for carrying Radio Wales - there are definitely a number of aerials pointing at Ridge Hill along the border areas - but that probably gets political, and the BBC probably think they couldn't add Wales without Cymru...

Think the problem is in some areas out of area stations have been put on transmitters which if replicated on the likes of Sutton Coldfield, Beckley near the centre of the country you could put forward a case for numerous more stations. The likes of WM and Oxford are surrounded by 7, 8 or even more stations and if you extend that to say 40 or 50 miles it would be in double figures.

Hannington has now had Sussex added, so two services now (Solent and Sussex) . And owing to this week's atmospheric activity I also have WM and 3CR in my EPG !
