OK - the situation is than many years ago I bought an LG 42PQ1000 tv - great picture and at the time did everthing I needed, Now however I need something with more inputs - d-suB and more HDMI sockets. One model in the same series the 42PQ3000 has all those facilities and otherwise looks identical and I see that its quite easy to buy a second hand input board for that or the 42PQ6000 models. If I did so could I simply transplant the new board into my set and more importantly, would it then give me the additional facilities I need? From the look af the boards, its simply a matter of unplugging a few ribbon connectors and swapping the boards over and reconnecting - but is it as easy as that?

I wouldn't have thought so, although assuming the sets are absolutely identical (apart from that specific board) it 'may' be possible, but would probably require the EEPROM altering to match the set you put it in.

I can't comment on LG, but 'generally' large model number changes (1000, 3000, 6000) would signify completely different chassis types.

But even if you did find the board works would it physically fit in the back of the TV?

if it has a different layout of connectors how would that work? If the connector panel in the back of the TV is itself detachable from the rest of the case then it might work as long as the new panel is the same overall size. But if the connector panel is an integral part of the main case it's likely the holes for the connectors won't line up with the replacement board.

If the replacement board doesn't work out - An HDMI switch box would help with the lack of HDMI inputs.

Pretty sure you can utilise the component input for d-sub use, im assuming you are you wanting to hook the pc up to the tv?

Assuming you mean VGA?, then Component doesn't have enough pins to do it, and it pretty different anyway.

I was thinking of a vga to component convertor, I've never used one but I have seen them mentioned as a bridge between pc and tv when the tv has no dedicated connection, would this not be a possibility?

Possibly, but why not use a VGA to HDMI one

Along with an HDMI switch it should solve his problems.

The easiest fix for connecting a PC is to get a £20 USB to HDMI device, which also solves any audio issues.

You mean a USB video 'card', it's one possible solution.

Thanks for all the suggesitons - at the moment I am using a multiswitch for the HDMI - it sort of works sometimes wont change over fro one input to the other and casues green screens at times. Not thought of using the AV for VGA - and see there are options on fleabay for such connectors so may give one of those a whirl.

Re the changing of boards - they are phyicallt the same in shape but do have more outputs but the way they are fitted does not mean a change in the main casing as the panel itself forms part of the rear of the TV. A physical swap seems very easy indeed - it was if it would work or not I was more worried about - and now from the comments may not risk it.

Just be aware that you can get VGA to three phono plug leads that claim to connect a VGA output on a PC to Component video on the TV. However these only work with graphics cards that can switch to Component Video over VGA mode (might be called TV mode). They don't work with bog standard VGA.

You can also get VGA to SCART leads but in my experience these tend to be a bit hit and miss whether they work or not (usually not).

Most of the time the only thing I've found to work is a box of electronics to convert the video format.

They don't 'work' - as they don't do any conversion.

What they are for (as with the Component versions you mentioned) is when the source has the option of outputting SCART RGB signals (or Component signals) via some pins on the VGA socket. As far as I'm aware this only applies to some games consoles?, and needs to be selected in a menu.
