My parents' 9150T has been displaying odd behaviour over the last couple of days. Firstly, they noticed it was 'off' on Saturday and needed to switch it on with the remote control (I have it set to power down at 11pm and power on at 7am so this was unusual unless one of them had sat on the remote).

I visited on Sunday and found it on. But it would have been all through Saturday night as all the settings had reset. The aspect ratio was 4:3 instead of 16:9 the padding was set to 'on time' instead of 2mins/10mins and even the parental control PIN was back to '0000'. The scheduled recording list was blank (it should have at least contained a couple of recurring entries).

The only things that remained were the tuned channels and previous recordings. The EPG was showing gaps after 3 days (something I'd sorted previously).

I set the machine back to our preferences.

They didn't watch it yesterday but it would appear that since Sunday evening, no recordings have been made and the machine was 'off' again this evening (Tuesday). I haven't seen it yet but I suspect that all settings have been reset again.

Any ideas? CMOS-type battery which isn't holding the settings on power-down?

My immediate cure will be to return the machine to my parents' preferences but to prevent it from powering down at night.

Any other thoughts?

Sounds like it's completely resetting itself somehow but I can't suggest a reason why. I'd try a Default Setting from the installation menu then re-set all your own preferences and see how it goes. Software and therefore all menu settings are stored in non-volatile RAM so there is no 'CMOS type' backup battery.

The Default Setting will tune new channels using Automatic Search, if you end up with some channels numbered 800 and above try my Manual Search instructions. This will not cure the problems you report but will ensure the machine is correctly tuned.

I upgraded from a 9150 to a HDR Fox-T2 some time ago and kept the 9150 stored away for ages then out of idle curiosity one day switching back on and it hadn't lost any settings at all despite being off for months on end.

Bearing in mind I got my 9150 pretty much as soon as Humax started selling them so it's had plenty of time for any bits to wear out. And I have never known it to ever forget it's settings when completely powered off and certainly never if left in stand-by.

Which tends to suggest a fault in your parent's box.

The 9300T has been reported as having a partial reset that does not include deleting the channels. With some people it only happened rarely and others it happened at least monthly.

With me I let it happen a few times and then did a reset myself. It hasn't happened since and my 9300T is still in use at a home where it is their main source of TV, i.e. it gets a lot of use. Of course that may just be coincidence. Some people reported no change to the unwanted partial reset after they performed a manual reset.

There didn't appear to be any known reason for it or how to guarantee fixing it.

A few weeks ago someone reported (I can't remember where) that it happened when ever there had been a power cut.

Thanks all. I visited my parents this evening and yes, their box had reset again.

I have now performed a default settings and manually tuned in selected channels (which I always do to prevent the EPG overload issue).

All other settings have been returned to their preferences except I have (for now) decided to avoid the timed power off/power on cycle. If it all runs ok when left on 24/7 I'll set power off/on times again (when I'm off work so that I can get round at any time).

The box is just over 4 years old. My first Humax (a 9200TBX?) lasted 7 years before I retired it in fully working order a few weeks back.

My 9300T has just started doing this just this week.Can you let me know if you have a solution as I don't really want to fork out for a new box. Plus I have loads of kids films recorded that I want to keep as my son watches them regularly.

Happened Monday and last night (Friday) I've noticed that it's been running really slow just lately. Whenever I try to navigate the EPG or recorded programmes list it sticks and stutters and also whenever I turn the volume up and down in the Humax remote it sticks and jams almost as if the batteries are going on the remote but I've changed the batteries and it's still doing it.

Twice this week I've lost all my recording schedule and the tv aspect and some other settings have been reset to default but all my channels are still there. Also my box is in standby when I come to it and I never turn my box off. Only time this ever happens is when I've had a power cut but that wouldn't cause me to lose settings and recordings.

Did the default reset work or are you still having problems?

Your problem sounds identical to my parents'.

My parents' box is still working ok. The only difference is that it is now on 24/7. I will reschedule night-time standby when I know I am going to be around to sort any problems.

I just did a default reset and did a manual tune. Will have to see how it goes. I'm fearing it may be on it's way out.

Are you aware that a reset to default settings does NOT lose the recordings?

When the 9300T does a partial reset again try it. The only additional disadvantage on top of the partial reset is that you will have to retune again, which obviously could take a bit of your time, especially if you need to retune manually for your location or like to get rid channels you never watch.

I did a default setting and so far everything has been OK up until today when I had to knock my power off for a few seconds.

The box restarted with default settings and lost all my recording schedule again. It's as if it's not holding it's memory.

This means that every time I get a power cut or my box gets turned off, which it does sometimes when my little boy manages to get hold of the remote, then I've got to start all over again setting up my box and putting in all my programmes again. That is, after I've had to wait 15 minutes for the guide to fully populate as it wipes that out too.
