BT are first out of the starting blocks once again, by soon being able to offer TV boxsets to purchase aswell as or instead of to rent, like how they offer certain films in BT Box Office to be purchased. I've just checked the BT Player and there's no sign of the purchasable TV series' yet, but they will surely turn up in an update very soon.

Presumably any boxsets you buy will then be available to watch on other devices besides the Youview box, via the BT TV Purchases app. I've not made any movie purchases this way yet, but am looking forward to seeing the full range of TV shows, see if anything takes my fancy that isn't on Netflix already.

What do you think to this latest service from BT TV? If you buy a boxset via your Youview box, I'd be interested to hear your opinions on the service, especially if you're using the Purchases app on your smartphone, tablet etc

Try library, box office, film and TV to own, TV series. There are about 24 box sets at the minute including 24, American horror, walking dead, modern family, bones, downtown abbey and a few others...

They have been on a couple of days and are slowly getting added to...

I couldn't see a "Film & TV to own" option when I looked, but I'll check it out more thoroughly tomorrow, thanks!

Are the prices reasonable, would you say? Only Im a Modern Family fan and would be possibly tempted to sell my DVDs/Blu Rays if the BT versions weren't too pricey to replace them with.

Yes, Season 5 is pretty steep, and that's the one I'd want in HD as Seasons 1-4 I have on Blu Ray but for some reason Fox only brought S5 out on DVD and Digital.

Oh well, I look forward to seeing what else BT add over time and fingers crossed there'll be some special offers down the line.

I waited a long time for a sale, but today, as BT started their TV and Film summer sale, I finally made my first BT TV Purchase, Season 1 of Modern Family in HD.

As expected, the picture quality is crisp and clear, and there is no loading times or big lags, excellent news considering the video is stored "in the cloud" and not on the YouView box's hard drive. The purchase hasn't shown up in my iOS app yet, but it can take up to 24 hours to become available.

Modern Family S1 cost £12.99 (£9.99 in SD), a saving of about £8 from the previous price, and Seasons 2-5 are also priced the same, I will be buying those in due course. Season 6 has also recently been released on BT TV.

I been looking at letting my sister buy a TV box set or a film in HD from BT for her birthday at the start of September for her to use via her I Pad Mini.
I have never used the service before.
How dose this service work.
Also in years to come if you need to get a new Youview box can you get what you bought on the new box.

You view via the BT purchases app (you can stream live or download and watch). Yes if you have to change box (I changed from a g4 to a g5 recently) your purchase's transfer to the new box within a couple of days.

I am very pleased with the service so far, and with the Summer Sale now on, it's a great time to get some films and TV shows at a cheaper price.
