onkyo tx-nr515 always switches to TV source when powered on

I'm trying to program a Universal Remote to turn on my Onkyo TX-NR515 receiver and Samsung UE55ES700 TV. I want to:
1. Turn on the TV
2. Turn on the receiver
3. Switch the receiver to HDMI 4 input (which is where I have my Humax PVR connected).

The remote fires off these commands fine, with a delay of 3 seconds before step 3 to allow time for the receiver to initialise. The problem is that, after receiving these commands (and switching the the HDMI 4 input), the receiver immediately switches the input back to "TV/CD". It sometimes also displays a message saying "HDMI starting" for a few seconds immediately before doing so. It's as if the receiver is pre-programmed to always switch to the TV/CD input on startup.

I upgraded the Onkyo to the latest firmware yesterday (1171-6110-0500), so I'm wondering if this firmware has introduced a new "feature".

Looking at that it seems the answer is either disable HDMI Control or put in a longer pause before sending the "switch to HDMI 4" command.

Personally I would disable HDMI control. In my experience it tries to be too clever for it's own good and tries, but fails dismally, to be helpful. So you end up having to do everything manually anyway just as if HDMI control had been off from the start!

Hmmm....HDMI control (RIHD) was already off, so unfortunately that's not an option. I followed the link through to the Logitech forum and someone there suggested disabling AnyNet on the TV. Will try that....

AnyNet is the Samsung name for HDMI control (CEC). I imagine that was what Chrisjr was suggesting.

If HDMI Control is off on the Onkyo it shouldn't be responding to anything the TV is sending. Then again I found that the only way to guarantee I was in total control was to turn HDMI control off on everything.

I have a feeling that even with RIHD off on my Onkyo it would still pass HDMI control signals from my Blu-Ray player to the TV if both of them had HDMI control turned on. So turning on the Blu-Ray would cause the TV to turn on. Though I think the Blu-Ray had to be selected as input on the Onkyo first and the Onkyo powered up. If RIHD was on then turning the Blu-Ray on would turn the Onkyo on switch inputs and then turn the TV on.
