Emmerdale is awful ATM! Awful!
It's very poor! I've gone off it a lot...
I feel like there's just way too many storylines going on! I know that mind sound stupid, but it really does feel stale. It was only a couple of years ago, the show had the amazing Cameron plot, with other plots such as Brenda's cancer, Amy and Kyle, etc... However, the show has fell so flat in the last few months and it feels like a desperate attempt to try and copy Hollyoaks. It feels so cheap and doesn't feel like Emmerdale at all. There's so much going on, and tbh I don't find any of it that interesting. I also think there's too many issue storylines, such as Val's health scare, Vanessa's health scare, Laurel's alcoholism, Alicia's attack, and others... Oh, and Katie's death was shambolic and now we have Andy jumping on anything. Boring! Sort it out Emmerdale!:/. |

Aside from Andy I'm actually enjoying it at the mo. I always enjoy April stuff, and Laur is far more interesting now she's turning into a nasty alcoholic rather than a victim.
And the Alicia aftermath is really interesting. |

I know it's getting tedious. Especially with this Alicia storyline. Her moping around and losing it is getting rather tiresome. And this Laurel storyline is boring too. Emmerdale is only good with Aaron and Robert together but that's ended for the time being. And we haven't seen much of Ross. I'm sort of missing him a bit. At least he's an interesting character unlike some of the boring characters shoved down our throats these past couple of weeks.

I still think it is better than Coronation Street at the moment.

ITV need to sort it out. Both of their soaps are pulling in shit ratings and are both running uninteresting storylines. |

I'm enjoying it but then I'm not part of the gnat generation that needs mega drama every five minutes.

Viewing figures with hundreds and hundreds of thousands deserting in their droves support your opinion. At least HO is LOL bad. ED is just grim mixed with horrific piles of comedy shite with Jimmy and Nicola. It's become a charity TV show for people who can't act. |

Awful seems a little over the top to be honest. I don't think it's in a bad place at all at the moment. The only thing I'd even slightly agree with you on is that there seems to be quite a lot of storylines that could be deemed sensationalist, which is a slight concern as they don't want to go too overboard in case it begins to affect the programme's future. The storylines that could be considered sensational though are all in the realms of believability for me, are enjoyable and all written very much in character so I don't consider it a major issue currently. If we were having stories like Doug and his vlog, Paddy and Marlon stealing pigs or something heavily involving the Spencers no doubt the show would be accused of being "like Coronation Street" on here and "not having much going on." Though I do admit I think the show could benefit from a few of those type of storylines help to balance things out all in all.

totally disagree with the OP on this. I have watched Emmerdale for years, and it is brilliant.
At least we don't get charactes ramed down our throats, i.e. one episode may focus on Alicia's story, next may focus on Andy, and so on. And we are starting to see more of April, and now Bob. Too likeable characters. |

The top half of the show is really good - Robert & Aaron, Laurel's alcoholism, Alicia & Lachlan. The bottom half is just a bit of a drag - I shudder every time Jai comes on screen.
I quite like that there has been big material for the Whites, the Dingles, the Sugdens, the Pollards, the Bartons already this year, but it can become a bit messy it's true. |

Emmerdale is bad at the moment and I've been starting to skip over it for months now.
All of the recent storylines seem forced somehow, and I feel they lack proper execution. The last one I really enjoyed was the Moira/James/Aaron reveal. All else since has been hit and miss. |

I like Emmerdale and still watch it. As for one poster saying Alicia "mopes around", she has been sexually assaulted! How would you feel if it happened to you? I think moping around as the poster put it is a normal reaction as is screaming and shouting or crying. Some people have made similar remarks about Linda Carter who was raped in Eastenders. I find it amazing that people on here think people should just get over something like that and be full of the joys of spring. I do agree with people who don't like Andy. I've never warmed to him. I don't like the way he's acted. I wouldn't miss him if he left Emmerdale. As for him and that awful Tracey WTF?! What on earth would he see in her? She's the polar opposite of Katy and is a scrounging user. I don't know why she just doesn't become a prostitute and go to ply her trade in Leeds.

I find it a strange mixture of Excellent and Poor at the moment, with no happy medium. Excellent: The writing and acting for the Alicia/Lachlan story, April is adorable, Bob is always watchable - one of my favourite characters in the show - and I like Pete. It is also excellent that we aren't getting the thug Ross pushed in our face; it seemed that every time there was a lull in the programme, Ross was sent out on a crime spree. A waste of a fine actor.
Poor:: Tracy. Also, at present are Nicola and Jimmy, but they can be rescued if a good writer is brought in; not so Tracy.. |

More than happy to have a week where there's no Massive Dramarama - I don't need that to stop me being bored. |

I find the OP a little hard to fathom. It lists all of the big storylines, which cover a range of subjects and a wide cross-section of the cast, then says ED is 'flat'. It praises the Cameron plotline (which felt very Hollyoaks to me, with the serial killer in our midst and the siege), then criticizes ED for imitating HO.

As a lifelong ED fan, I am bound to be slightly biased but I find the show very watchable at the moment.
1. I’m glad that Val’s HIV is being revisited in a realistic and responsible way. 2. Alicia’s assault has been VERY well played out (helped most by a superb actress I admit). 3. Laurel finally has a proper story and shows that Charlotte Bellamy is actually a decent and very likeable actress. It also gives more screen time to Doug and April, and I’m hoping that this story sees the end to her marriage to Marlon. 4. I find Andy jumping into bed with Tracy to be slightly insensitive given that his wife’s body is barely cold, but it makes sense that in his state, he would make such mistakes so I won’t judge him too harshly. I don’t get all the hate for Tracy though?! Yeah she’s a scrounging tramp, but the actress is capable and she makes me laugh, her acting style is very natural, and I don’t think it’ll be too long before she’s softened and becomes another Kerry. 5. I’m glad that the Bartons are taking a back seat, I’m hoping some time off screen will give the writers time to re-evaluate the character of Emma, and make her slightly less psycho, and also tone down Ross’ attitude and Finn’s moaning! In my opinion, the show is in a much better state than the likes of Corrie, and the idea that it’s turning into HO is slightly ridiculous. For a start there’s no drugs or kidnappings in ED at the moment, and without those, HO doesn’t have a show!!

I'm actually enjoying the distinct lack of Charity Dingle / Emma Atkins at the moment.
Plotline believability + reduction in wanting to punch tv screen = soap enjoyment |
