They are equally annoying!

(Agree with biscuitfactory, regarding Charity)

What I am saying is the vast majority of soap actors are soap level actors and will never go on to do any better than be in a soap. The facts speak for themselves on that.
I did not say soaps are full of bad actors but i do think the standard of acting has fallen a lot in ED and CS. The acting in ED is certainly the worst it's been since i started watching.
It's been noticeable the amount of increased criticism the acting has been getting on here.
I will add that there is nothing to sneer at about being a soap actor. There's many thousands of actors who'd bite your hand off for a steady job in a soap.

I hate it when one or two fm's think their opinion speaks for millions of soap viewers.
BTW i like Paddy but i found Marlon and Sam beyond annoying.

Lets be honest here. If they dug up Olivier, Gielgud and Richardson, replaced Diane with Dame Helen Mirran , had Aaron Sorkin doing the writing and Steven Spielberg or even martin scorsese (at least he would know what to do with Katie's horses) as Series Producer you would still be complaining about Emmerdale.

If its not the acting, storylines and your personal favourite Kate Oates, not sure how you would manage to fill your day

That's fair enough. I expect there's some you like that I don't.

I honestly disagree. I think that Emmerdale is currently the best out of the major soaps right now. It seems to flow very naturally, and a lot of storylines have been bubbling under the surface for quite a while which keeps me very on edge and excited to see what happens next, such as Pearl's gambling problem, Lauren's alcoholism and Lachlan's "issues". These are storylines that lead to bigger storylines that lead to even bigger storylines, and it's nice to see it all pan out.

EastEnders is very "in your face" compared to this. Storylines don't make their presence for weeks on end then suddenly out of nowhere there's a shock development in order to bring in more viewers. The storylines in the show seem to just be "placed" there instead of any real thought going into it. Don't get me wrong, I like EastEnders, but I couldn't care less if I missed an episode and often find myself skipping through the over-sexualized Linda/Mick scenes anyway, and since we get a lot of those, I'm missing quite a lot of the show because I just can't bare it.

The writing is certainly more natural and gentle in Emmerdale, and there's not a single cast member of the show that doesn't fail to perform when it's their turn. Even the younger actors pull it off at the best of times.

EastEnders is shit ATM, but Emmerdale has been unappealing for way too long IMO.

Perhaps it's just unappealing to you, though. Emmerdale is very weird like that - it doesn't announce itself very well. It's just kind of "one of them television shows on ITV" that people watch when they're waiting for Coronation Street or if it's on in the background during a conversation with your grandma or when you're simply flicking through the television channels. It's like Corrie's younger sister, pretty much.

Emmerdale certainly doesn't have the "appeal" that EastEnders and Corrie have, because it's never really shon since I can remember - I've only started watching Emmerdale recently and I admit I never really cared about it because it was never advertised greatly. It's a very marmite show. It's slow-paced, which people may not like if they have been watching EastEnders and Hollyoaks for a while and are used to a slightly faster pace.

On the topic of actors moving away from Emmerdale, Dominic Brunt (Paddy) tried his hand at directing a few low-budget films. I've watched his horror offering 'Before Dawn', which starred ex-Daler Nicky Evans.

The film was OK, if you don't mind the plagiarism of every single horror staple going!

Couldn't disagree with you more. I've been hugely enjoying Emmerdale since...well forever (I've always watched it) and this year has been brilliant.

Under Kate Oates xcept for the brief period at the end of the Cameron story (Blackburns story btw ) the ratings have been at best modest and many times at record lows. Numbers which would have got anyother producer sacked a longtime ago.
She has turned off huge numbers of viewers. That is a fact not my biased opinion.
The stories are an endless cycle of crime, misery and people being sick. That's just clueless and downright lazy.
The likes of the Spencers, Shamas, Jimmy, Lachlan, Chrissie, Val and Pete are played by terrible actors but that is my opinion not a fact.

Yet she tried something different with the Laclan and Alicia story, but guess what you criticize her for that.

I would say that if you don't like endless cycles of crime, misery and people being sick, then perhaps soaps are not for you.

If you wanted to watch the "farm" bit of Emmerdale I would suggest Country file on a Sunday evening.

I think a lot of it comes down to what characters you like to watch. I couldn't give a toss about Val, Kerry, Jai, Sam, either half of Maurel, Finn and Toxic Tracy so I found last week a drag. This week looks much better
Spoiler
Alicia, Leyla, Lachlan, Nicola, Jimmy, Chas, Debbie and most importantly Cain -all characters who I either like and or find interesting to watch. I can even put up with Kirin because I like Priya and Rakesh, who tend to feature when he does

I think you'd be lucky to see a working farm on Countryfile these days - unless it's a perfectly preserved victorian one I hadn't watched for a long time and got quite a shock when I tuned back in a few weeks ago- it's gone all 'lifestyle'All it was missing was Kirsty Allsopp.

The Lachlan and Alicia story ended with huge numbers of viewers turning off so it's hardly a story KO should be proud of. She has no feel for what ED once was before she got her grubby hands on it. She should try and remember that ED is shown at 7pm.

Ha - take it from me (one from the farming community) - Countryfile is derided by most of the farming community because of how far away from farming it's editorial is.

Completely agree. Is there any she CAN be proud of? Perhaps in her head there is - there's certainly no knowledge of Emmerdale history in there.

It hasnt ended yet!!

Since you don't watch perhaps you hadn't realise that.

If you had read Kate Oates interview about the story, you would see what she was trying to do. To look at young people and way they view sexually etc. Perhaps it is not suitable viewing for very young children, but that is up to the parents not emmerdale..

You have lambasted Kate Coates for not coming up with an original idea, yet when she does again you slag her off.

Your immense hate is turning you into a joke.

She should absolutely be proud of it. It's great. Disturbing, but still worth telling.

But like everyone says, you just seem to hate everything now. You'll just have to accept that the rest of us don't.

Hate is a very strong word and i do not hate KO or anyone in ED or other soaps.
A reletively tiny number of DS's FM's continue to stick up for but thwy pale next to the massive numbers who've switched off at various times during her time. That is the acid test of her efforts not what you, me and a few others on here think of her.
She's been a failure whether you care to admit it or not.

That story turned off 1.4 million viewers from the start of the week. That is an awfull lot of people who clearly didn't like what they were seeing. If her best is a massive turnoff then
It only underlines further how poor her work is.

Unfortunately because you say the same thing several times a day (even though you no longer watch Emmerdale) it does come across as obsessive hatred
