I honestly disagree. I think that Emmerdale is currently the best out of the major soaps right now. It seems to flow very naturally, and a lot of storylines have been bubbling under the surface for quite a while which keeps me very on edge and excited to see what happens next, such as Pearl's gambling problem, Lauren's alcoholism and Lachlan's "issues". These are storylines that lead to bigger storylines that lead to even bigger storylines, and it's nice to see it all pan out.
EastEnders is very "in your face" compared to this. Storylines don't make their presence for weeks on end then suddenly out of nowhere there's a shock development in order to bring in more viewers. The storylines in the show seem to just be "placed" there instead of any real thought going into it. Don't get me wrong, I like EastEnders, but I couldn't care less if I missed an episode and often find myself skipping through the over-sexualized Linda/Mick scenes anyway, and since we get a lot of those, I'm missing quite a lot of the show because I just can't bare it.
The writing is certainly more natural and gentle in Emmerdale, and there's not a single cast member of the show that doesn't fail to perform when it's their turn. Even the younger actors pull it off at the best of times.
