Started listening to Rebecca Fergusons new album LSTB today and I must say its a fantastic piece of work. Not usually into covers but she has put her own unique spin on every song and they all sound fantastic. I loved her 1st 2 albums (Heaven & Freedom)

Hope to see her tour with this album around the UK soon

Anyone else had a listen?

Yes I have and I agree with you. I have all three of her albums. She is amazingly underrated and a much better live singer than a lot of the big names. No autotune.

Diana Ross made this album and starred in the film of the same name over forty years ago..

I'm not at all keen on her, but she made a good job of both.

I agree, I thought Diana Ross made a good job of both although. like you, I am not a big fan of hers.

Rebecca's album is excellent and she puts her own stamp on the songs and does not try to mimic Billie. She has wisely omitted Strange Fruit from the track list.

Why is this album being touted as a cover of the Billie Holiday album of the same name? There are only handful of tracks featured on Billies original and many of the rest are more readily associated with other singers. In fact, I'm not sure Billie even recorded the first single, Get Happy ( prepared to be corrected ) which to many is a Judy Garland song and which Rebecca manages to drain all of the joy out of. Also a cover would have to include Strange Fruit imo (sorry manderley ).

It's not that amazing. She sings the songs with such insincerity and lacks any emotion. You can't simply sing a Billie holiday song with any emotion. She was one of the most disturbed heartbroken women in music at that time. She showed that in her voice and music. Rebecca Ferguson thinks because she got pregnant and the man left her midway through her pregnancy, she feels she can emulate the sad and heartbroken nature of Billie holiday's songs. Well she hasn't.

At the risk of upsetting some of her fans, I don't think she's that good. I found her voice lacked expression and sounded a bit thin.

I guess her record company were looking for a "vehicle" for her and thought this a good idea.
Her voice as has been said has little emotion and of the few tracks I heard, I didn't rate the accompaniment.
Plenty of Billie Holiday tracks on YouTube for doubters to make the comparison.
