(EastEnders) Kat and Zoe
Is anyone else annoyed at this re-write of their relationship? They were always close, even if argumentative, as ‘sisters’, and when Zoe left she finally accepted Kat as her mother. It was meant to be a sort of happy ending, despite the circumstances.
I just don't buy that Zoe would need to cut herself off from Kat (but not Mo and Charlie, apparently), just because she has “a new life” in Spain. And the excuse about wanting to forget her past sounds like baloney too — it is not as though she was an awful person before, except for her unplanned part in Den's death, which Kat helped her deal with and overcome. Why can't the writers have a nice phone conversation between Kat and Zoe, or even Kat visiting her in Spain off-screen? It all seems as though they are meddling with history for a short-term plot to increase Kat's perpetual misery. |

This is all so they can make a storyline for Zoe's return

Is she meant to be coming back? I haven't read any news. Michelle Ryan hasn't expressed a desire to return as far as I know.

Well they seem to need to push Kat down even more so she'd accept Harry's money.
I'm in 2 minds about Zoe, on one hand Kat is a walking disaster area who does hurt other people when she hits self destruct - look at how Stacey is having to run after her presently. And this visit to Zoe has been prompted by Kat needing to feel better, she seems to think that Zoe can 'fix' her rather than doing it to bring pleasure to Zoe or enrich her life. Also maybe Zoe just wants to forget the circumstances of her conception and not have that millstone round her neck - as much as Kat wants to forget it, so does Zoe and Kat is a living reminder. Unfair on Kat but i can sort of see Zoe's point of view. However, i don't see shy she doesn't blame Mo or charlie as they were involved with forcing Kat to give her up and Mo actually knew about the allegations against Harry. |

Zoe being an unlikeable and self absorbed bitch really isn't anything new and rings completely true to her character. That scene where she insinuated that it was Kat's fault that Harry molested her never really sat right with me.

I think Zoey has a cheek to attempt to cut Kat out of her life! If it wasn't for Kat, Zoey wouldn't have had the chance at a fresh start and a perfect life in Spain.

If this is being done to pave the way for a Zoe return, then fine. It's a little ham-fisted, but maybe it could work.
But if they've done this simply to give Kat a storyline where she gets depressed and then gets through it for the sake of her other three kids - if they've casually added a really depressing coda onto the end of one of the most iconic and uplifting storylines the show has ever had, then they've made a massive mistake, and this regime will go down as one the show's worst for that alone. |

I don't think they've done this for a Zoe return I think they devised this just to get Kat to accept Harrys money. Which if the case is truly pathetic. From what I remember Zoe wasn't that traumatized about Kat being her Mum and Harry being her Dad. She seemed to be over it pretty quickly. Now all of a sudden she's scarred by it? Whatever! Roll eyes.

Stupid storyline, it's annoying becouse the Zoe Kat Harry thing was resolved, Kat helped Zoe escape when she was in the frame for killing den. Also when Alfie married Roxy, didn't he get Kat off the plane she was going to see Zoe. It would have been better had Kat gone off screen for a few weeks and it transpire that Kat had slept with Zoe's new man thus a new feud but just re hashing, lazy dtc just lazy

More excuses to make Kat the eternal martyr, in my opinion. I think it is completely out of character for Zoe. Perhaps Zoe doesn't want to think of Kat as her mum, but she can still have a relationship with her. As the OP says, Mo and Charlie played as much a part in the lies as Kat, more so because she was still a kid.
I don't know why they won't just recast Zoe, MR obviously doesn't want to come back, and she's not played Zoe for 10 years, so I think we could handle a new face. |

When Stacey found out that Dennis was cheating on Zoe with Sharon, Zoe encouraged Charlie to throw Stacey (who was about 16) out because she didn't like was she was told. Thankfully, Kat didn't trust Dennis and Charlie felt guilty about Stacey and Jean so they let her stay |

I was hoping this meant Zoe would be returning to EE? I hope it's not just a pointless storyline, I want to see Zoe back in EE, she and Kat left on good terms and it would be great to see them interact as mother and daughter.

Zoe did a runner originally, she was traumatized and lived on the streets and nearly went into prostitution, I think her relationship with Kat was always hard to accept for a long time, the shift from sister to mother and all the lies, it did mess her up for a period, her trying to be Kat in a way, always going after the blokes her mother went with etc.

From that most iconic of duff duffs "You ain't my muvva, Yes I am!" to an emotional, teary Julia's Theme accented farewell "I love you Mum." Kat and Zoe's difficult, complex, up-and-down sister/mother & daughter hybrid relationship was one of my favourite, most compelling relationship stories I've seen in Eastenders. If they've messed that up just to heap yet more misery on Kat it will leave a very sour taste.

It did confuse me, because I remember they left on fairly good terms.

Spain or Walford? Hmmm, hard choice. I never liked Zoe but in real life I wouldn't want to go back to such a dreadful place with such horrible memories either. I can't blame Zoe for that, if she has a good life why would she want to spoil it?

Zoe said "I love you mum"... They had so many powerful scenes together. They really shouldn't spoil their relationship. They'd resolved all their issues and that was a beautiful ending. |

I can't see Michelle Ryan coming back, to be honest. She's said a few times in the past that she's not interested and I can't see that has changed. "Normal" people don't go back to previous jobs, do they? Saying that, I reeeeeaaaaallly want Grant to come back!
Getting back to Kat & Zoe, I think the breakdown in their relationship is so that Kat has the drive to get involved in the Harry court case. If she wants the money to send to Zoe as a peace offering, she has to revisit the past - otherwise she'd avoid it like the plague. |

If they're going for an interesting Zoe return, then this is definitely the way to go. If not, it all seems rather pointless and counterproductive in the development of Kat's character.

Any normal mother would try to plead with their daughter to make peace with them, not just accept the situation like Kat seems to have done.
