CS - Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) returning for 2 major stories? *Contains spoilers*

I hope they try and convince Chris Gascoyne to return for Leanne's domestic abuse storyline, and for Deirdre's funeral. I know Peter wasn't treated right near the end of his last stint, but it would be nice and a good time for a guest appearance. |

That would be good wouldn't it but I'm not convinced we'll be seeing him at Deirdre's funeral and I can't see the actor changing his plans for this storyline. I am fairly certain he said he'll be gone for at least a few years and he's doing a couple of plays in the theatre isn't he?
I think this storyline will eventually lead to Simon going to live with Peter. It wouldn't surprise me if Alex Bain is leaving and this is their way of writing his character out because there's no way the old Simon, who was meant to be better off living with Leanne, would be able to go and live with his alcoholic dad. They'd surely have problems writing the old Simon out but with this storyline, Leanne will try to help him and put up with the violence for so long until she has enough and lets him live with his father, who will have sorted himself out by then. That's my prediction anyway. |

I sincerely hopes he turns up for Deirdre's funeral, even if it is for only one or two episodes. It would be ridiculous if Peter can't come if he is only in Portsmouth.
As for the domestic abuse that might be harder as he would probably have to return for at least a reasonable amount of time for a storyline like that. Though we might have a chance of Chris returning as he did return for Tracy's trial back in 2007. |

I don't think Peter Barlow will feature in the Leanne/Simon sl. Chris Gascoyne is starring in a play with Vicky Entwistle in B'ham and Leeds starting mid May through to the end of June.
Hopefully he could return for one ep for Deirdre's funeral, (if that is shown on screen at all). |

I've missed a few weeks, has Deirdre died off-screen yet?

If Deirdre didn't return for peter's trial or tracey's wedding (her own daughter, let's not forget) then why should peter return for her funeral?

I'm fairly certain that what mattered to the actor, Chris Gascoyne, was saying goodbye to Anne Kirkbride at her funeral. That would have been difficult enough. Ken could easily say that Peter's too upset to go. |

I don't agree with those who say Peter must return for Deirdre's funeral.

Yes but Peter's not Ken. I'm sure there will be others who are upset and will still go but does that mean he has to be there? Not in my opinion.
They were so close. That's MY opinion. |

Maybe the writers will explain how Deirdre had recollections of Peter from a time he was growing up in Scotland, as expressed in the eps where Ken returned to t'cobbles.
Even though CG said he wouldn't be returning for a 'few years' I think he'd make an exception for Anne/Deirdre. |

no because he'll most likely have an interaction with Carla and he's dragged her down enough. he can go away for a couple of years and hopefully simon will be on his way with him soon enough

The actress was ill
Surely the writers have to progress from fictional events as they were shown; they can't just expect the audience to completely forget about them. Oh, hang on .... we do that all the time! |

Didn't peter move to scotland long before tracy was born, and from there joined the navy in 1980?
In 1980, Peter joined the Royal Navy and served with them until 2000. |
