Panasonic HWT230 Record From Buffer Help
So my beloved Topfield PVR 5800 finally died (RIP) and I replaced it with a Panasonic HWT230 (after much deliberation between that and the HUMAX HDR 2000T). It's pretty good overall and I do like the remote recording feature BUT I'm finding it's UI control to be a subset of what the Toppy offered.
One issue is that when you rewind live TV I want to be able to start recording from that rewound position. Is this possible? Also why, when I'm in playback, and I hit the 'i' button doesn't it give me the extended programme information? like it does on live viewing? Any HWT owners out there that can help me? thanks |

When I ended my BT TV contract last November, I bought a Humax 2000T. Nice machine, but one or two faults (no sound if you switched to it while recording), so I returned it and bought a Panasonic HWT230.
It's a good machine, with more facilities than the Humax, but with a couple of shortfalls in comparison. It's annoying having to move across the EPG, programme by programme, instead of just pressing a button. I've never tried rewinding and recording, mainly because you lose the advantage the Humax had. With the Humax, while recording two programmes, you could also view a channel on the same whatsit (MUX?). This gave you, effectively, the ability to record three programmes which were on at the same time. The Panasonic limits you to viewing the two programmes being recorded. So you could do this only with a maximum of one programme being recorded. To rewind you'd have needed to have the box on, and on that channel, from the start of the programme. So if you know that you have to do that, just set a timer recording. On the whole, I love the box, but I find there are rather a lot of limits on what you can do. The particularly annoying one is that, if I've extended a recording time to stop clashes (i.e. three consecutive programmes on the same channel) I can't edit the title until recording has finally ended. |

Thanks for that response, glad it's not just me.
Yes don't get me started on the EPG. The Toppy had a top-down EPG (channel by channel) which is so much easier to work with than these terrible horizontal EPGs. I think they all copied SKY thinking it was the way forward. It's not. It makes it very laborious to move through each channel looking for up and coming shows. The toppy also had that same feature of being able to record 2 programmes and watch another on the same mux. I now have to switch to my actual TV to watch a third channel. With regards to my issue, there is a reason I would like this ability to rewind and start recording a show. Sometimes I can be watching a show and then some way in, think 'oh my kids or wife would love to see this' and then I used to be able to simply rewind to the beginning and hit record. I did this quite often. Thanks for the heads up over the humax, my mother in law is looking for a PVR and in partic was looking at the humax... Sadly, I think the HWT230 is about as good as it gets right now. |

Thanks for the tip, but sadly I can't see any option to do this and I've pressed every single button, and double tapped them too.
