I always wonder if Julie Goodyear had not been giving so many scenes when she returned would her return have worked slowly wen she returned. What would her storylines have been afterwards She definitely would have taken charge of the Rovers again. Maybe a relationship with Fred Elliot. Surely the producers should have discussed the change in the show since she left in 1995. .Even the scenes when she returned for two weeks in 2002 were good with Rita during their confrontation. What could have been done to save her. She did work on the show for 25 years as an actress so she would have known how to deal with the long schedule. She did say she felt like she was heading to a nervous breakdown again when she returned in 2002 after a few weeks work.

They did ask her to return and it was her choice not to return after a few weeks back filming.

Yes, and I found it a strange move by tptb at the time as for a five year period before that they had deliberately changed the direction of the show, away from the cosy characters we had been used to (some of which were getting past their sell by date) & brought in a whole new generation of younger characters & issue led storylines!! To some dyed in the wool fans this was the end of their beloved Corrie but to others (me included) it was an exciting new beginning, which provided a new sense of balance to the cast & a means of taking the show into the new millenium!! To then try & bring back a character who was firmly entrenched in 70's & 80's Corrie seemed bizarre to me & I really wasn't surprised when it didn't work out!!
As we know now the storylines got perhaps a little too dark at times & it took a couple of years to get the balance just right but, in Corrie tradition, they managed it pretty well for the rest of the decade!!
