Went through a phase of listening to a lot of this kind of music a few years ago. Heard Caetano Veloso in a cafe earlier and it reminded me how much i enjoyed his stuff and Os Mutantes, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil.

Any fans here?

Tropicália, also known as Tropicalismo, is a Brazilian artistic movement that arose in the late 1960s. It encompassed art forms such as theatre, poetry, and music. The movement was characterized by a combination of the popular and the avant-garde, as well as a fusion of traditional Brazilian culture with foreign influences.
Probably the most famous track from this bunch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEpSFOibJho

I like this song, it reminds me of growing up, I remember it being played alot when I was a kid. It makes me want to go on holiday and dance on the beach with a greek man... but I wouldnt fall for him and marry him, I would just take it for what it is, a holiday romance.

I think Tropicalia was more a sixties/early seventies thing, but has had a large influence on western music and music inside Brazil.

I'm happy for people to include other latin and s american music here though. Cheers for your contribution

Probably heresy but I prefer the Bees' version: https://youtu.be/YSA08dQqCNk

The Tropicalia stuff I've heard is just a bit too "we are weird" for me. I love this from Gilbert Gil, though: https://youtu.be/XgQLOSpG4EM

A very faithful cover that.

Considering it's a Brazilian fusion of western pop with traditional S American sounds, i suppose it was always by its nature going to be a bit oldball

Caetano Veloso lived in exile in London during the sixties and wrote some lovely English language stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u49klxIVcU
