There are threads around of people complaining about the show and talking about all the things BK and his cronies shouldn't have done. Let this thread be focused on attainable solutions. As much as I'd like Emmett and Claire (and the like) to reprise their characters full-time and give closure to their characters' stories, that's just not reasonable considering the size of their careers.

Here are my suggestions:

1. If there's no way to axe , at least let him face some consequences for his actions. Same with Patrick. They've been running around not being accountable for what they've done.

2. Utilise Grace and Trevor in stories outside of random crime. They've a good set-up with Dylan and Esther. Explore that.

3. Have Nancy get her morality back. She was always the more well-behaved women on the show.

4. Free Maxine once and for all from Patrick's clutches. If it means killing off Minnie, so be it.

5. Have Ste take some control of his life instead of always being a victim.

6. A hot gay romance for Harry.

7. Less McQueens. Never have a bunch of losers on benefits been celebrated in television.

8. Related to #7, more middle-class and respectable families in the Oaks. Bring in some posh relatives of Frankie, or something.

9. A fun rivalry of Cindy v. Simone as well as Holly gaining back her edge during the Wallis Day era.

10. MORE FRANKIE. Best mum in the village and the longest-continuous-duration female character on the show. I can't get enough of her facing off against the more basic villagers.

1. GET RID OF KIRKWOOD.
2. Keep Grace/Trevor away from gangster shit and show them at home with Esther and Dylan/working in the florist or fish shop.
3. Get rid of , Lindsey, Jason, Frankie and Peri. Awful, useless characters.
4. Fix Nancy. She was a great character and doesn't deserve being Kirkwooded. God, have her cheating and other out of character behaviour be a dream, I don't care, just make her how she used to be. Spirited and interesting, not sanctimonious and hypocritical.
5. Proper punishment and rehabilitation for Sienna. Get rid of the weekly abduction crap and she could be great. She needs proper stories rooted in reality.
6. Use the characters more equally.
7. Split up Ste/JP. It just doesn't work.
8. Send Patrick to jail or kill him.
9. Kill off Minnie or send her away with Maxine. This show does not have the sensitivity or tact to deal with a character with Downs, it'd make JP's rape look well handled…
10. End the Leela/Ziggy/Tegan crap, it's ****ing terrible.

1. Get rid of all the McQueens apart from JP. This family have long since had their day. Let them be consigned to their place in Hollyoaks history where they can be remembered as they were in their heyday instead of limping along like they are now with random relatives showing up.

2. Bring the Patrick/Maxine abuse storyline to a conclusion. I know in real life these things go on years, but if they want the audience to still care they need to bring it tona conclusion. Personally I would have ended it after the wedding reveal. Up until that point it was a successful storyline, tackling a difficult issue and getting the message across. Everything after that has undone the early work.

3. Stop piling on the misery onto Ste. In the last couple of years he has lost his partner, his home in the explosion, his mum, his dad and stepmum, drug problems, HIV..... Give him a break!

4. Axe Sinead. Boring and repetitive character. Should have gone ages ago.

5. Get Tony and Diane back together.

6. Return Nancy to how she used to be pre-Sienna and get her back with Darren.

7. Axe Ziggy and Freddie. Dreadful characters played by dreadful actors

8. Restyle Grace back to more like how she used to be instead of this ridiculous gangster Barbie she has become.

9. End the Lindsay/Freddie nonsense. Lindsay has become such a bore since being with Freddie

10. Bring back the student halls!

Bring back Warren and Louise and I don't care how far fetched it would be.
They are UK soaps greatest ever couple.

1. Get Darren and Nancy back together.
2. Get rid off Lockie, Cameron, Patrick, Cleo, Peri, Nico, Pheobe, Joe, Freddie and Lindsey.
3. Put Ziggy and Tegan together.
4. Less McQueens
5. Make Nancy likeable again.
6. Tone down on the amount of villains. No need for so many gangsters and psychos, it is just stupid now.
7. Less deaths. Never mind a hospital, they should take a leaf out if Eastenders' book, and open an undertakers.
8. Make a Trevor and Grace a proper family, with less of the gangster stuff. They are both are quite funny and really likeable when they are not running around with guns.
9. Give Jack and Frankie more screen time.
10. Spread storylines out evenly, rather than giving so much to certain character. There are so many that need a break from the storylines (Ste, John Paul, Lindsey, Freddie, Joe, Patrick and Nico).

Its obvious most of these '10 ways' nonsense are posted by women or feminist men especially the ones who want family only storylines like people cheating on each other (boring).

The gangster storylines can be good if done properly and not cringworthy like Cameron's 'i met bigger and harder people then you, trevor'

I pretty much agree with most of what has been posted. These are my notes.

1) Ste and John Paul- Either split them up for good or keep them together. No affairs, no problems. Just allow them to be like a normal married couple without splitting them up every ten minutes.
2) Maxine and Patrick- I've read some spoilers and apparently Patrick starts controlling Maxine again. The way around this is for Maxine to finally make a statement to police and go through the stages of getting a successful conviction. The police would hardly turn down her statement on the grounds of 'no evidence'. She even has witnesses (ie Nico, Sienna, Dodger, Nancy, Dennis, Blessing).
3) Blessing- I personally don't think they did the transgender storyline justice. It went around in circles too much for me. I don't know if Blessing will be back, but I would like to see a bit more effort put into her storyline. I would like to see her get counselling for her self harm issues, and to prepare her for her transition from male to female.
4) Stop all the kidnapping/abductions.
5) Stop all the murders. Three months in to 2015 and two people have been murdered already. If they need to have people die, at least have it by natural causes.
6) Background characters- They need to try and prevent characters just being 'there' with no storyline (George). The character I think who is most at risk is Phoebe.
7) Alex Browning- What happened to him? He was up and ready for avenging his father's death and then disappeared. I think an explanation is needed there.
8) Gloved Hand Killer- I think this storyline would work better if the identity of the killer was known, but the victims were not known until the last minute (if you get what I mean). It would be more interesting to see how long the killer could get away with it.
9) Freddie and Lindsay- Split them up. For good. They were just not meant to be.
10) Jason Roscoe- They need to show his recovery. I don't want to see him make a quick recovery as soon as he gets out of the clinic. I'd like to see a follow up to his storyline.

This is just me getting started. As for bringing back characters and axing some, I could go on forever...

I love Hollyoaks, but I think it needs to up its game.

Working with BKs mistakes ie not being able to reverse I'd say


1) Ste and John Paul- Split them as they should never have been paired as it was obviously just easy to do so and provide thoughtless fights/affairs etc. Stop making bad things happen to Ste. John Paul should be focused on his family and should be leading the hunt for Mercedes.
2) Maxine and Patrick- Storyline needs a decent conclusion and Patrick needs to be brought down shamefully once and for all. Either axe the character (but he's a good actor) or break the character, serve viewer justice and rebuild him. Let Maxine be a happy single mum who can have a good time too ie the original Maxine!
3) Leading characters - Redo TDITP to make it more of a hub with Frankie leading as a character who everyone can turn to in their time of need even if she's not bffs with everyone. Give her character and family stability too. Tony can be rebuilded from weakling to a leading male figure of Hollyoaks
4) End the sensationalism/characters adapting to storylines when it should be the other way around and balance timing of storylines with a suitable aftermath. End the constant thug activities of Trevor because it can't work in a soap as he always ends up doing next to nothing bar kidnapping which gets repetitive very fast
5) Writing - As if some acting wasn't bad enough the writing and storyline/twists are far too one dimensional. Nothing seems to happen naturally and characters just seem to be on a looping cycle of emotion when their character mind and views should guide their judgement, not how the producer wants the story to start/end by changing characters.
9) Roscoes- Get rid of Freddie asap and repair Lindsey with Joe in a realistic sense given the damage that has been done already this will prove difficult. I've genuinely forgotten the 3rd eldest so that proves how cliche and irrelevant he is so he needs to go. Jason and Robbie are decent.
10) Get Nancy and Darren back together!

Get rid of BK ASAP
Split JP And Ste And if Craig And Brendan don't come back put them with différent people that will have more chemestry than them
Get rid of Maxine And Theresa

This show needs a serious clean-up. They need to fire BK first. Then starting to reconstruct Can't be worse than What We have now.

Pheobe actually works in the garage, training to be a mechanic i assume, Nana works as a cleaner in the loft but Im sure is probably receiving pension and claiming disability too which is why she drives around on that scooter thingy when shes outside the house

Agree with all 100% apart from 9.
Here's mine:

1. BK just has to go. He is literally the worst. (Alongside Susan Bower lol)
2. Sort Nancy out. She is my all time favourite character and is barely recognisable now.
3. Patrick and Sienna need to be written out. Completely unrealistic and the story just seems to go around on a loop. Let's let Maxine have a few minutes respite and possible happiness.
4. Can't stand Ste with John Paul! Ste with Brendan - Electric! Ste with Doug - really sweet. Craig and John Paul - unmissable t.v! There's just nothing there between them. They just whine and bitch about whatever Ste's done wrong from week to week. Boring. 😴😴😴😴
5. Hope Tony and Diane can get back together (old school Brookie fan) great family, like the addition of Harry too.
6. Get rid of the hospital and the ridiculous Dr. Savagè! Can't it all have been a dream and the SU Bar has still been there all along?!
7. Decent scripts and drama for the McQueens. I once thought they were on a par with the Slaters in EE now they've turned into pantomime characters. Comedy is good but they've really lost their way with writing for them.
8. Already can't stand the Lovedays. We lose Danny and Sam Lomax and we get this?! I give them six months tops. lol
9. Bring back a regular intake of students. It's what the show was about for years.
10. Did I mention BK? Has. To. Go. 😊😊😊

- Allow us to invest in characters and not ruin their core values!
- Realise that less is more when it comes to storylines.
- Realise that not everyone cheats on each other.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

A total clean out behind and on camera is needed. Get rid of Kirkwood, most of the producers, most of the the writing staff. Axe the Lomaxs and Roscoes. Expect for Tegan & Ziggy. They make a strange couple, but it's a nice one.

Basically start again.

1. Kirkwood go - He has had plenty of chances
2. Put storylines to bed - Maxine/Patrick, gangster stuff etc
3. Give longer standing characters proper storylines (Jack) and make them likeable again (Frankie, Nancy, Tony).
4. Majority of the Roscoe and Lomax families should go, Peri (because of Tom's baby) and Robbie (maybe Jason too) i'm fine with staying as they have potential, Joe's fine but don't think he'd last without the others.
5. Get back to realistic storylines/stop repeating the classics. I get repeating some because new viewers may not have see older episodes but at least don't repeat them exactly! And move away from the real OTT stories like the Gloved Hand Killer, Mercedes fake death etc.
6. THE HOSPITAL NEEDS TO GO! Bring back HCC and the SU Bar.
7. Utilise characters who don't get much time on screen rather than waste them, otherwise what's the point.
8. Sort out the JP/Ste relationship. I wasn't them both to be happy whether that's with or without each other.
9. Inject some fun into the show, some cheesy storylines or just things that make you laugh like Michaela's hair setting on fire, Lynsey and Cheryl's hangover surprise, Rae, Theresa and Liberty getting revenge on Ethan etc.
10. The McQueens have had their day, the new girls are nice and all but they feel like replacements rather than their own characters and its so far away from the original core family that it doesn't feel like the McQueens anymore. Sadly they should go apart from Phoebe, JP and Mercedes (and maybe Theresa).
