It makes no sense if you consider the Masood family's history. How would Shabs having a boyfriend be such a problem? Mas and Zainab came to accept Syed being gay and embraced Christian into the family. Their daughter being in a relationship is hardly going to be the end of the world.

Moreover Masood, though he's a decent guy, is hardly a saint given his past problems with drinking and gambling.

Or is Shabnam simply assuming that he will disapprove?

It's quite a messy nonsensical storyline to be honest Shabnam should know that Masood wouldn't give a toss. Therefore I don't give a toss.

Why has Stacey forgotten that her ex boyfriend the rapist is the father of Shabnam's child. Shabnam seems to not care either.

EastEnders' timing has become piss poor.

Shabnam probably has some religious hangup about her relationship and that's what concerns her. She's conflicted about it and therefore does not want to admit she's not perfect to her father.

I think it might be because she doesn't want her extremely religious persona to be tainted? Maybe she thinks if people know she's in a relationship with Kush, who isn't religious, they'd think she didn't take her religion seriously?

That's my guess anyway

That's exactly how I interpreted it. I think she is quite concerned with "keeping up appearances".

I think it's strange the way they've done the storyline. Shabnam and Kush should have got together and then he could have been the one that heard the baby reveal when she was struggling to let him in to her life (blah blah), she could have said that she didn't know who the father was so that could have been revealed separately to Stacey.

I thought they'd revealed it as they did to link with the Linda rape bit there's been no suggestion from Shabnam that Dean raped her has there? So why throw the story away like they did in the midst of two big storylines coming to a bit of a climax?

Wouldn't Kush as he's Iranian be a Shia Muslim?

I thought I'd missed something along the way, Shabnam not wanting to tell Masood doesn't make any sense he likes Kush this secrecy is getting annoying to watch now

As far as he's concerned I don't think its particularly relevant as he's not a practising muslim be it Shia, Sunni or any of the other branches.

I thought they might make it a Shia-Sunni thing but they seem to have not bothered with that at all. but surely newly "devout" Shabnam would prefer a Sunni, no??

It could be she wants to keep up appearances. She made such a big deal about Masood dating a white woman who isn't Muslim. Now she's dating someone out of wedlock herself and probably thinks her father will make her feel bad about her own behaviour after what she said to him.

I can't stand Shabnam. She has to be the most annoying character on the square at the moment, in my opinion.

Masood wouldn't mind about Shabnam and Kush - as an earlier post said, he had tried to set them up before. Plus, he and Kush are good friends so would know that he's a good bloke.

As for religion, Masood and Jane hooked up for a while so he can hardly preach about that to her.

Shbanam is odd

She didn't mind shagging Dean in the toilets, having a secret baby and them dumping it

But she won't have people know she is in a relationship.

I think the BIB was the reason originally, if you remember when Shabs was telling Stacey about her baby she mentioned never wanting Mas to look at her the way he'd looked at Syed when he lost all their money (before they came to Walford). Disappointed was the word she used.

Now, I think she likes the "naughtiness" of hiding from her family - much like she used to hide going clubbing with Carly and Dawn from Mas and Zee.

I think the secret baby (retcon nonsense) was what made her go off to take her religion seriously. I hate the fact that Dean is the father - an absolutely unnecessary twist.

This puts the issues into perspective a little better. It sounds as though Masood is upset and disappointed that Shabnam and Kush have been lying about their relationship, not that he disapproves of Kush.

But have they? I don't recall an instance in which Shabnam or Kush have outright lied to Masood about being couple. (They have to others, but not to Masood.) Unless Masood expects Shabnam to tell him when she's dating someone.

If he can't handle her not telling him that she's doing the dance with no pants with Kush, he'll spontaneously combust when he discovers that she had a bunk up in the bogs with Dean and gave the baby away!

Absolutely! Having sex with Kush isn't such a big deal.

I am inclined to agree with you guys, that is the reason why, she has tried to absolve her past sins by trying to live the perfect muslim way and in reality it is difficult. She is conflicted going against her faith and Masood did say to her that, in his eyes, she was his perfect little girl, so she is trying to live up to that perfect image in the eyes of her father.

ETA: I think Masood would be more shocked about Shabnam getting pregnant and giving up her baby.

I personally think Masood wouldn't mind Kush dating Shabnam as he likes Kush, perhaps he wanted to hear it first rather from someone from the Square.

What I am interested in, is what is this bombshell Kush is going to drop on Shabnam next week ? We know his wife died, so it can't be her coming back from the dead. Perhaps, he has a child but he couldn't look after her/him and his parents or wife's parents are looking after the child.
