EE-Better Peggy
Do any of you remember the first Peggy Mitchell from 1991, from the Ricky/Sam elopement storyline? If Babs never came into the picture, how do you think she would have done? In my opinion, the first Peggy is not the Peggy we all know and love, but I am open to what you all have to say.

She doesn't really look like a Peggy Mitchell. Barbara made the role her own. Maybe Old Peggy can return but as a different character?

I prefer the original but can't see her as the later Peggy. Peggy seemed to change after the recast so they might as well be different characters :P

Jo Warne only appeared in 10 episodes.
Babs IS Peggy. |

The difference between Jo Warne and Barbara Windsor as Peggy was planets apart. Babs made the character. Though things might have been different if Warne was introduced permanently rather than as a guest character and they kept Peggy a less glamorous matriarch.
The contrast of the two Sam Mitchell actresses - Danniella Westbrook and Kim Medcalf (Santer should've never brought Westbrook) back in 2009, of all the Mitchells it has ruined her. DTC could've reintroduced Sam last year played by Medcalf once again if that nonsense didn't happen last time around) was pretty damn stark, but even that wasn't as dramatic as the one between the two Peggys. |

Peggy's recast is possibly the most bizarre recast in history. The original Peggy and the Barbara Windsor version are like night and day. Any sense of reality was thrown out the window when they swapped Jo Warne for Barbara. Truthfully the fact Warne only appeared for 10 or so episodes makes no difference. She was memorable and it was jarring when the very well known Windsor took over. Nowadays Windsor IS Peggy but back then I found it very strange.

I agree it was the strangest recast! But I can't imagine the original actress having a long run on the show
