Zoe Slater can be recast IMO
If it wasn't for the 'You ain't my Muvva' storyline (which was really all about Kat, Zoe was the secondary character of the plot) is Zoe really an asset to the show?
Zoe (as a character in her own right) wasn't that much big a deal, it's the Kat/Zoe plot that's iconic, not Zoe herself. Without that storyline, then she would've been an easily forgettable character. If we're talking about Kat or Stacey, then that's a completely different matter, as these two will never be recast, it will always be Jessie Wallace and Lacey Turner playing them regardless. Zoe isn't as big a character as Kat or Stacey, and isn't particularly memorable apart from that iconic scene. I honestly reckon EE could get away with giving Zoe a new head, as long as the producers went to extensive effort to find the perfect actress for the role. Zoe is needed for this upcoming Harry storyline, and if Michelle Ryan is still ruling out a return, then a new head would be welcomed by me the character still has a lot more to give to the show, and this is the only way forward

I actually don't feel Zoe is particularly needed in this story, I reckon it would still work with Zoe living in Spain.

No I don't think it would work at all. Zoe was a huge character in the 00s. Kat recently showed a picture of Zoe and Michelle Ryan was in the picture.

the could get away with a recast as they did with Martin but it would take a long LONG time for that new actress to really be accepted, Hetti Bywater STILL hadn't been fully accepted and Lucy wasn't near as iconic a character when she took the role

I don't think Michelle Ryan ever really made the character of Zoe her own. Any young actress at that time could of taken on the role. So a recast wouldn't bother me.

I hope and pray, that the photo is a sign of Michelle Ryan reprising her role. Love her. |

They might have got away with it (grudgingly) if they hadn't shown the photo of Michelle as Zoe so recently. By doing that, they have made a recast impossible for the foreseeable future.

Don't care if we never see Zoe again. She was an annoying character and, as a character, Kat is actually better off without her.

she was also involved in Den being murdered, a fairly major story I'd say, how does Michelle's attitude stink? She is always respectful in her comments simply saying she wants to move forward.
She is not grateful what so ever when she owes her career to the show I only want someone to be on the show if they genuinly want too |

I'm a fan of recasts, but I couldn't buy into a new Zoe. There's something about those original Slater girls that couldn't be recreated. I think people are doing the character a bit of a disservice here too, she wasn't just one storyline and one moment. She was a major player in a lot of huge stories over her five years, certainly not 'bit part' by any stretch.

I think the fact that they showed Kat showing a picture of the old Zoe means that she wont be recast. I doubt she will be returning tbh, I think this is a just a plot device for Kat to get back on track.

Involved in big storylines but as a character she was fairly standard. She could easily be recast.

I don't think she can be recast. I didn't particularly like or disliek the character and it's nto about whether or not she's an asset to the show. When she was on the show teh acterss made the character her own. It would feel odd with a different actress and I just don't think ti would work. It's a simialr situation with Martin Fowler. I was completely indifferent to the character and the actor, however this enw Martin Fowler just isn't working. James Alexandrou was Martin Fowler, and this new actor just isn't working in my opinion. If you're going to do a recast then it needs to be done when the actor or actress is young and just about to embark on big storylines (Lauren Branning for exanmple). Or if a recast is done for a character a bit older, then the character needs to not ahve made much of an impact the first time round.

Just because someone doesn't return to the show it doesn't mean they aren't grateful? Have you ever returned to your first place of work?

I don't think that Zoe will be actually coming back although if she does I genuinely can't see why a recast wouldn't be fair enough. She's been gone for a decade now, it's fair enough to assume that she would have changed at least a bit, like others have said though, the show honestly doesn't need the character that desperately to make the story work!

please show me a link to an article where she has insulted the show on a level with that of Patsy Palmer's comments before she came back as I honestly have never seen her say anything negative about the show just that she doesn't wish to return

I never liked Zoe anyway so a recast would be fine by me.
Bens recast has been successful as was Laurens and even Sams (Kim). |
