Artists who slag off their own work/albums
Reading the article about Kylie and saying maybe the Kiss Me Once album didn't deserve enough (sales I presume) it got me thinking about artists who then change their mind on their own work due to sales perhaps (not saying Kylie is slagging off her album btw, but got me thinking).
An example I think was Jessie J saying she "hates" the album version of 'Nobody's Perfect..er why put it on there then. It kinda annoys me when artists do this because surely the whole point is you put out a body of work you're completely satisfied with? Another example was Lady Gaga saying she would've "perhaps" left 'Money Honey' off of the fame album, I don't think this was that long after it came out either. |

Lana seems to have disowned Ultraviolence.

It could be, for example, the label or management who like a particular version and think it will sell well. Or, a few years ago, I wrote a song, which initially I liked enough to play to the rest of the band, they liked it, a lot. we worked on it, and played it live, it became a favourite of the crowd, but each time we played it, I liked it less and less, eventually getting to the point where I hated playing it, but couldn't get out of it cos the crowd wanted to hear it. If I was asked now, which song is my least favourite, it would be the top of my pile, by a mile |

You're a very lucky artist if you get to do everything the way you want to.

Kylie was only guessing it never did well because maybe people simply didn't like it. That isn't slagging her work off, that's guessing why it underperformed. There's a difference.
Bon Jovi are not fond of their second album apparently. They dislike it that much, they never use any of the songs from it on their greatest hits or tours. |

Weezer (or Rivers at least) hates Pinkerton.
REM hate Around The Sun. (and Shiny Happy People as a song). Pearl Jam admit they lost their way a bit round their middle albums - Binaural & Riot Act. Iron Maiden don't really play much live from their 4 90's albums. Red Hot Chili Pepper don't really acknowledge One Hot Minute. Bowie admits Never Let Me Down was lazy. Daltrey has called It's Hard a piece of shit (he's right too). |

I love Kylie, but she does have a habit of doing this. She said the same thing about X and Aphrodite. She needs to stop trying to justify stuff like this, and just stand by her work.

Chris Martin has been quite harsh on Coldplay's third album 'X&Y' at times and they only tend to play one song ('Fix You') from it live. He has stated that some of the wrong songs made the final cut. I think that's a shame, as apart from a few slightly ropey lyrics, I adore that album - in fact its Coldplay's more recent output I'm not so keen on!

Melanie C is known to be quite critical about some of her own work and the Spice Girls work.
She hates the single "On the Horizon" from her second album Reason and never performs it live. She wanted the title track to be a single but Virgin Records obviously didn't (I quite like OTH myself) I get the feeling she didn't want to release her cover of "I Want Candy" either but thought it would be a hit + was featured on a movie. She openly admitted to not wanting to release Headlines (Friendship never Ends) single at the time however in one of her more recent youtube fan questions videos she said the song had grown on her and it was "beautiful". She thought it was better live. In the same youtube video she said she didn't want "Voodoo" on the Greatest Hits a she doesn't like it ( I don't know why its very Spiceworld imo) I don't think she was a big fan of the "Forever" album either otherwise why was she the one so against releasing more singles from it? the next planned single "Tell Me Why" she was the only girl other than Geri obviously lol who had no writing input into that song that says a lot (I am not a massive fan of it either tbh too bitchy and negative to be a single imo) |

Cher openly admits that she hates most of her songs, particularly Just Like Jesse James - she said on her 'farewell' tour in 2003 that she only performs it because the fans love it and she thought it was crap.
p!nk doesn't like her 1st album 'cant take me home', she said the sound wasn't right for her but because it was her 1st album she didn't really have a say Britney doesn't like her old stuff BOMT/Oops Madonna has said she hates Holiday |

Madonna in 2006:
"Hindsight is a cruel ****er. When I look back at my early songs, there are several I would never consider doing today. Like a Virgin and Cherish are two retarded songs, but for some reason my fans love them! Do you think they'd notice if I didn't sing them ever again?" Madonna in 2015: "Yeah, my kids do listen to my music, but they're forbidden to hear anything pre-Vogue!" |

She hasn't actually performed it on tour since 2001. |

Madonna is a bit on and off with her material, she's slated the 80's stuff before but in her recent interview with Howard Stern said that it's really only Material Girl (the song) that she isn't a fan of.
Britney is quite well known to dislike her earlier stuff, that's only natural since she had no control at that point, Sometimes especially, she hates that song. |

She does however, utilise the songs she dislikes to put bums on seats. Even singing one of her least favourites goes down well with fans so I think she grins and bears it. She did admit recently that a show without Like a Prayer would be disappointing for her fans. So she acknowledges that song in a positive way. |

Madonna really dislikes This Used To Be My Playground as well. I'm really not sure why given it was one of her biggest hits but she snubbed it on both GHV2 and Celebration despite it being one of the most popular choices when Guy was asking fans on Twitter what songs we wanted on Celebration.

She did the same with Body Language too. I remember when it came out; she was talking about how the chart position doesn't matter (since it was a Britney v Kylie chart battle) back then and how she was proud of the album she made. Then a few years later she slags it off saying it could have been better...
2004 you mean? I remember it on The Re-Invention tour. |

you know what? My mind must be going! I was at Earl's Court for The re-Invention Tour and I can't remember Holiday. But now you mention it, was it at the end with Music?

Oh God! I hated the Reinvention version of Holiday. It was so dull. I much preferred the Music Sounds Better With You version she used on Drowned World.
