Sorry if this thread has been done in the past, but what do you think?.

I'd say in modern history, the best years were 2003/2004, and the worst year was by far 2014, and 2015 hasn't been much better tbh. What does everyone else think?

Good choices, plus 2008 for me, with the Liam/Maria/Carla/ Tony s/l!! That was still brilliant all thru 09 but sadly it was the only thing that was good that year!! Absolutely agree about 2014 especially the second half which was just diabolical apart from the Rob exit which would have been ok had we not been told every detail of what was going to happen in advance!!

I've been a fan for 44 years but, unlike most 'long termers,' the 00's were my favourite era

I completely agree!.

I started watching in 2007, and loved it all the way thought to Hayley's death. I've seen loads of clips from the 2003/2004 era and it's brilliant... The whole 2003-2006 era was really good IMO.

The Tony/Maria/Carla/Liam storyline was fantastic.

There was a lot to still enjoy about 05 & 06 especially for me as big fans of both Leanne & Maria around that time!! They were two vibrant, lively characters at the time, totally unrecognisable from the same two characters under most of Blackburn's reign!!

It's a toss up between 2008 and 2014

1998 was a good year with the free Deirdre campaign & 2002-2003 with the Hillman storyline. I think 08/09 was really good as well.In 2000 the 40th anniversary was poor but worst years IMO have been 2011 to present

I've heard lots of people say the best era was 76 to 84 but that was before my time (just!). Been watching some episodes on YouTube & it does seem like a good era

I definitely agree with this. The 70's and 80's were obviously fantastic years for the show with Elsie Tanner, Bet Lynch and Hilda Ogden, etc... However, it was more of a kitchen sink drama back then, and I can see why EastEnders overtook it, when it came out.

The 00's had everything. Drama, comedy, and so many iconic characters and storylines!

The show really pulled it's socks up in 2002, after a shaky couple of years, and the whole 2002-2004 era was compelling drama, mixed with classic comedy IMO. The Richard Hillman, Mad Maya, Todd being revealed are a few examples of how good that era was. The show felt fresh and exciting, with lots of new and exciting characters, iconic characters/golden oldies who are sadly no longer with the show such as Mike Baldwin, Deirdre Barlow, Haley Cropper, Jack & Vera Duckworth, Betty Turpin and Blanche Hunt. There was also lots of great characters like Peter Barlow, Shelley Unwin, the Battersbys and many more. Then there were characters like Leanne and Maria who played a big part in the 00's, who are boring and dull these days.

A lot of people on this forum criticise the Collinson era, however I loved it! It was a bit OTT, but so what, the storylines were gripping, and a lot have great have left since that era. 2010 was a brilliant year for the show, from start to finish. Joe's death, Becky's baby problems, Peter's alcoholism, Jack's death, Blanche's offscreen death and funeral, Roy and Hayley's wedding, them there was the underworld siege, Gail's trial, the tram crash, Molvin reveal, and the ridiculously camp and OTT Tracy return!.

2011 was average IMO. However, we still had huge episodes like Leanne and Peter's wedding, and big storylines like Carla's rape, John Stape death, etc...

The start of 2012 was brilliant with Becky's exit, Franks murder and trial, and the Peter/Carla affair reveal.

2013 was also epic at the start with the Kirsty storyline and the Rovers fire. The Karl storyline and Hayley storyline also helped the later half of 2013 be brilliant! The show has gone downhill ever since then, and the show these days is nothing but a shadow of it's former self, with boring storylines and loads of deadwood. The bus crash was awful and aftermath has been truly, truly, truly shocking. Just awful...

But yes, I agree the 00's were definitely the best, especially the 2002-2004 golden era!.

I don't really do individual years. For me it's:

1960-64, 1976-80, 1989-93 and 2002-04 in the top tier
1965-71, 1973-75, 1981-84, 1987-88, 1998-2000 in the second tier
1972, 1985-1986, 1994-1997, 2001 and 2005 in the third tier
2006 to present in the bottom tier, bottoming out in 2009.

You know your right.

I am watching up until February 1985 when Eastenders begins.

But each episode is superb
