Your Favourite EastEnders Character - 10th Anniversary Edition (Round 1, Group 7)
A few surprises in group six. Firstly how well Shabnam did, it’s a real testament to the past year’s work by Rakhee Thakrar as I don’t think she’d have made it prior to her introduction. Though perhaps that’s also down to the bias towards more recent characters. How else are we to explain the high number of votes for AJ? Not enough to make it through, but for a character that was barely fleshed out it was probably more than he deserved, which is far more down to the show than the actor, who just completed a brilliant guest stint on Cucumber. Diane’s votes were a pleasant surprise, just managing to topple Honey out of the running despite appearing in only a handful of episodes. I think this makes Honey the first former finalist to be eliminated, coming 15th in her first year with the show. Her popularity dipped as time went on, it’s evident in the results up until her departure, but I’m not sure whether enough time has passed for that to be a major factor.
What most surprised me, was that for quite a way into the voting Christian had picked up so few votes he struggled so much that he was below the line, heading towards elimination. It didn’t turn out that way clearly, but for a two-time winner of this contest it’s quite shocking how times and opinions on the character have changed. Here are the results anyway; it was always going to be Zainab wasn’t it, with one of the highest scores so far (though not quite eclipsing group one’s joint Pat and Janine top two, who each picked up all but one of the votes). Group Six Results 01 | Zainab Masood - 94.1% 02 | Kathy Beale - 90.2% 03 | Archie Mitchell - 82.4% 04 | Shabnam Masood – 80.4% 05 | Dennis Rickman - 78.4% 06 | Simon Wicks - 76.5% 07 | Charlie Cotton - 74.5% 08 | Christian Clarke - 70.6% == | Rainie Cross – 70.6% 10 | Diane Butcher - 60.8% ------------------------------------------ 11 | Honey Mitchell - 58.8% 12 | Steven Beale – 49.0% 13 | AJ Ahmed – 37.3% 14 | Keith Miller - 13.7% == | Eddie Moon – 13.7% 16 | Fiona Mackintosh – 9.8% 17 | Leon Small – 7.8% 18 | Naomi Julien – 5.9% 19 | Derek Harkinson – 3.9% == | William Mitchell – 3.9% 21 | Vinnie Monks – 2.0% 22 | Norman Simmonds – 0% Poor old Norman fails to score a single vote, he wasn’t that bad? Even Bobby Davro picked up more. We also lose Pauline’s lovely lodger Derek, who it seems has been all but forgotten ten years on, along with Sonia’s former fling Naomi, though we needn’t say more on that one. Another casualty is Keith Miller, with the family continuing to do poorly this time around having already lost Rosie, axed far before her time and while the family were still in their prime, as well as long-standing Darren. I can’t help but imagine what the family would be like under the current leadership. The basics were there, they just needed a decent storyline. Finally I must bring to your attention the fact that seven of you voted for Eddie Moon. Let that shame stay with you. We move on to group seven and I can’t quite make up my mind on my predictions for who’ll top this one…there’s a couple of serious contenders.. Group Seven Johnny Allen Bradley Branning Derek Branning Max Branning Cameron Bryant Linda Carter Stan Carter Andrew Cotton Nick Cotton SJ Fletcher Pauline Fowler Rebecca Fowler Blossom Jackson Al Jenkins Demi Miller Little Mo Mitchell Juley Smith Nikki Spraggan Emma Summerhayes Mike Swann Chrissie Watts Gina Williams Vote for your TEN favourites from group seven. Voting will close Monday, remaining open until the next thread is posted. |
