EE- THey Should Have A Kat/Shirley Two Hander
I reckon this would be brilliant. They are both brilliant actresses and also both of them were very young mothers. Dominic please do this.

Yeah that would be brilliant actually. Hope this happens because Jessie Wallace and Linda Henry are one of the show's best actresses.

Very true. They have strong chemistry together. I still love their first encounter in the café where they get into an argument, but then Stacey laughs when it turns out that they're wearing the same clothes. So funny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imOUH6u2atA In the future, a Shirley/Dot double header would be awesome too. Dean's future is limited and Nick is dead. Both women have criminal sons and have had so many personal battles to contend, both in their minds and with those around them. I reckon when Dean is gone for good and Dot is out of prison, a heart-to-heart between the two women will be very good. They know each other fairly well given their mutual friendship with Heather. |

Zoe has been mentioned a lot recently, but they haven't touched upon the fact Kat and Zoe were raised as sisters. I think they're avoiding drawing attention to the fact the Shirley and Mick story is essentially a diluted copy of the Kat and Zoe story without anywhere near the level of emotional fallout, complexity to the shifting dynamics, or powerful and memorable scenes.
In theory I like the idea of a Kat and Shirley double hander; Jessie Wallace was excellent in the two she has been part of, and Linda Henry is a better actor than Michelle Ryan or Shane Richie so if written by somebody like Daran Little who has said he loves writing for the Carters but has also said he loves writing for Kat (not that he ever does anymore) the standards should be high. I don't think it will happen though, because as I said I don't think they want to highlight parallels between their stories. |

The nucleus of the stories are the same but they have both played out very differently, have different backgrounds and each has their own merits.
Rather than ignoring it, I would rather they embraced the Zoe/Mick connection with Kat/Shirley and I woukd love to see a 2-hander between them. They are similar characters, have been through a helluva lot, have common ground and then there is Mick/Zoe. I remember that scene where they first met, it was brilliant and I think it is a shame they never invested in them as friends more. Linda Henry and Jessie Wallace could pull it off, no mistake, esp if it was written well. I would also happily see a Dot/Shirley heart to heart. I don't think they have had proper scenes since Yvonne's first appearance? Or even Linda and Shirley. There is much more we need to explore with Mick's parentage. |

Why would Dot and Shirley have scenes? They aren't that close. Dot has Ronnie, Dot, Ian, etc as close mates. Shirley and Dot don't really care for each other that much imo

A two hander between Shirley and Kat would be great...someone needs to tell Kat not to give up on Zoe. |

What to give parenting tips to each other!
They won't for the fact there is no substance or reason for such a episode and the huge fact that Shirley and Mick's s/l is a rip off of Kat and Zoe says it all, considering Mick's reveal has been a big letdown they better focusing on sorting out the Carter mess first. |

We do need some proper Mick and Shirley scenes, the aftermath has been overshadowed and I hope that it will be picked back up again soon, it has veen kept very much in the family and not really been mentioned in a while. It would be good to have some Shirley/Kat scenes when/if it becomes public knowledge. And some Shirley/Linda scenes to enable to rape story to move forward. |

I don't think it will happen though, because as I said I don't think they want to highlight parallels between their stories. Kat and Zoe is one of eastenders best and most iconic stories. They should only have repeated it if there was any way of improving on it or adding a fresh twist but there wasn't and they didn't. The Harry incest/rape angle made that story far grittier, more hard hitting and more shocking. Zoe as an emotional teenager made for a more dramatic reaction to stable, easy going, middle aged Mick's and Kat and Zoe's much more combustible, edgier dynamic made it more exciting. Like Kat, Shirley is a complex character but she lacks Kat's ability to really tug at the heartstrings - everybody fell in love with Kat overnight after that double hander. The Kat and Zoe and Harry reveal tore open a stable, loving, close knit family which was far more powerful than an already fractured family turning out to be even more fractured. Everything changed for the Slaters that night and it was powerful and real. Slater Week is one of Eastenders greatest achievements, the Kat/Zoe reveal one of it's most iconic moments and the Kat and Zoe double hander was hailed as the best since Den and Angie. I do like the Carters, especially Mick and Stan, but in truth this Shirley/Mick storyline doesn't even come close to Kat/Zoe and I don't think it should have happened. I liked it better when Stan was Mick's Dad. If they are avoiding comparisons I can see why. |

That would be hypocritical in the extreme, which I know is a Shirley speciality, but wouldn't make for a very believable development. Shirley has frequently abandoned and left her kids to their own devices until it's a good time for her to play mum - whatever Kat's faults, thankfully she has nothing to learn from her when it comes to motherhood.
Kat has always been one of the better mums in the square. But Kat shouldn't give up on Zoe, and someone needs to drum that into Kat. Mo and Stacey just seem to accept that she has been shoved out of Zoe's life, and that's all wrong.
