What's wrong with my phone? Help please?
It all started about six months ago. All of a sudden my 2 year old Galaxy S2 which showed about 15% charge randomly turned itself off and when I restarted it the battery level showed next to nothing and certain photos or apps became corrupt and had to be reloaded and I get a message about a faulty SD card but once I fully recharge the battery it all comes back to working ok again and my photos reappear ok.
Just recently it's started doing it more to the point it's now doing it at least once a fortnight. It usually does it when I'm using my browser or the camera. I've noticed what happens is this... I get the no network coverage icon in my taskbar and then a message saying No sim card inserted then another message saying SD card removed unexpectedly even though it wasn't removed. Then a message saying media scanner running whereby I'm unable to access my photos while the system scans my media and folders. During this time my phone gets mad hot and my battery level will rapidly drop to zero in a matter of minutes and when I restart my phone I get a message about a faulty/corrupted SD card and might need to reformat but I've checked the card and it seems fine. Once my phone has restarted I can now get network coverage but all my photos show blank like they've all corrupted and clicking on them brings up a message saying loading photo which just stays there forever and nothing will load. Sometimes apps will go corrupt and have to be reloaded on and my battery will now show at about 1%. The only way to fix this is by shutting the phone down, leaving it to charge up and then rebooting it whereby it will all seem to work ok until the next time.it decides to go weird on me. Sometimes the phone will reboot showing like 52% battery when I know full well it hasn't got that much charge in it. When I plug my charger in the battery level will continue to fall until it reaches 1% then it will start to increase again. It always seems to do this whenever my phone starts to fall below 15% but a couple of times I've known it to just randomly turn itself off for no reason on about 50% then it will reboot showing there's no charge. Any ideas what could be causing it? Battery maybe? Before the problem started I was using a charger that I bought off the market for a fiver but stopped using it as every time I plugged my phone in it would make my screen jump about. At first it wasn't noticable and would just cause my screen to be a bit unresponsive but more recently it would cause my screens to jump around crazy to the poi t I wasn't able to use my phone while it was on charge. Weird thing is, my wife has a galaxy s4 and she's used the same charger and her phone doesn't do this. Any ideas? |

Samsung
I had virtually the same problem with my Galaxy GT-S5839i. It kept saying it couldn't recognise my sim. card and that it was corrupt. Which I knew it wasn't. My battery life was yuk.
I never solved it so I decided to purchase a Moto E. Sorry I can't help technically. |

I suspect it's the battery. I had similar problems with my Note 2 - it would shut off at 50% battery and not restart unless recharged. Also, just before the phone shut down it would behave oddly, the signal would disappear and sometimes it would hang. I replaced the battery and all those problems went away. You can get replacement batteries that claim to be genuine for around £5 on Ebay, might be worth a punt to hopefully restore your phone to working order.

The technical term is its knackered. Try asking on xda though as this sounds a very specific issue.

I have a battery from a non NFC model which came out of my wife's old S2 handset but not sure whether I should use it because a) I don't know if putting a different battery in will make matters worse or damage my handset, b) Prior to her phone dying it suffered a power failure so don't know if the battery is faulty or will damage my handset and c) Because the original battery has NFC written on it does this mean I'll lose NFC capability? |

I suspect you'd lose NFC but as long as it fits otherwise I'd imagine a standard S2 battery should work fine. Given your wife's phones' failure I'd steer clear of that battery just in case, maybe see if a friend or family member has an S2 to see if their battery works OK in your phone first?

I think your battery is in it's last throes of life. It's giving out false capacity readings and inconsistent power output which is causing the various glitches to happen on your phone.
Have a look at the battery to see if it's swollen up slightly. If so it's definitely time to get a new one. Anker on Amazon are generally good and reliable for 3rd party replacement batteries. |

My husband had an issue with the battery not charging whilst in the phone. He got round it by buying a spare and a unit it goes into that plugs into a plus socket to charge.
It seems to have sorted the problem. |
