Desktop view when website uses responsive design?
More and more websites are using responsive web design to display mobile versions so the "request desktop site" feature in mobile browsers has no effect. Does anyone know any way of getting the full desktop site in sites that use responsive design?

I'm not sure there is.
With mobile versions and desktop versions there are basically two different versions of a website, so although the mobile version is served up by default you can request the desktop version. But with responsive design there is only one version, with code to serve up different layouts depending on the size of the screen. |

Given that responsive design is pretty much just showing the exact same content in a layout more suited for a particular device (as opposed to the mobile view which is often a bastardised and much "lighter" version of the page), I am not sure what benefits you would have in overriding this.
If you could tell us specifically what you're hoping to gain, we may be able to offer suggestions on how you might do it. |
