Samsung H series Freesat TV channel order/change country

Hi all,

I have just bought a Samsung H6400 smart TV from Pixmania and am trying to tune the freesat channels in correctly. I believe I have selected the correct satellite for freesat (Astra 28.2E) but every time I do a scan I end up with a ton of duplicate channels in a seemingly random order (eg. channels 1-10 are all Channel 4), and I'm wondering whether this has something to do with the fact that I am unable to select the correct country under the broadcast settings. The only options I have are Austria, Germany or Switzerland. I am aware that this is a common issue with TVs bought from pixmania, so I am wondering if anyone can confirm whether this is indeed the cause of my channel order problem, and if so whether it is possible to enter the correct country somehow. I have seen many posts on how to change the region for smart apps (which I've already set to UK), and I have entered my postcode and selected the correct region in the basic setup but this does not appear to give me any more options under the broadcast country setting.

Any advice appreciated!

It's most likely because the TV does not have a freesat tuner, rather a generic free to air one. There won't be a epg (only now and next prog info) and when you scan 28.2E you get all the free to air channels. The duplicates are different regional variations. There should be a way of deleting channels you don't want.

The actual broadcasts don't have logical channel numbers (these come from the Freesat or Sky epg). The channel numbers are allocated in the order they are scanned in. If you look here the Channel 4 transponder being the lowest frequency gets scanned first.

Is that because I got a 'European' model from Pixmania instead of a UK specific model?

I imagine so. Does the Samsung UK website say the TV has Freesat ? Looking at Currys it doesn't mention a satellite tuner at all.

Yes it is, if it doesn't say 'Freesat' then it's NOT Freesat - however, even if it was a UK model having satellite doesn't mean it's Freesat - many Sony TV's have satellite, but not Freesat (and for the UK is a completely unsupported feature, and not even mentioned in the instructions never mind the advertising literature).

Samsung have done various Freesat models, although it's often never been mentioned on their website, no idea if they currently do any or not?.

It is advertised on UK sites as having Freesat, whereas on Pixmania its listed as being 'satellite'. I guess that answers my question. Fortunately I got this as a bedroom TV so the shortfalls won't bother me too much. Can anyone recommend a good desktop application for editing the channel list? Doing it through the TV menus will take forever...

You could always send it back.

I could try, but at worst Pixmania are only guilty of not making it totally clear that I'm not getting the same kind of Satellite tuner in the TV as I would if I bought the same model in the UK. They didn't list it as being Freesat, only Satellite. So I'd probably get stung for the return postage to France. And as I said already, it's a bedroom TV and I'm not that fussed about the differences, other than the one off effort required to get the channel order correct.

I think you will only get 'Now and next' data and not the 14-day EPG you would have with Freesat.

Except it's not that, it will require retuning and re-sorting every time Freesat change their channel allocations. Part of the Freesat and Sky EPG systems take care of any changes for you (particularly the Sky one).
