After my recent debacle with a budget smart phone I went back to using my ancient sony push button phone.
All was ok until a couple of weeks ago.
When I move from one location to another, reception often fails and on reaching my destination the phone may do one of the following:-
No service, can't make calls.
Says it has service, but if you try and call out there is no sound.
....in both cases restarting the phone will often cure the problem (sometimes it requires more than 1 attempt).

If the phone stays in my pocket when I take it out again it has no service, requires restart.

There are 2 other very specific faults which are to do with the features of the phone which I have traced and do not effect the main issues.

As an experiment, I borrowed another basic phone in the week (unlocked, works with any sim). Obviously this was free of the 2 feature specific faults relating to my phone, but it showed identical replication of the main issues.
In addition it seemed that where my phone would simply say No network, this other phone displays "emergency".

I have basically given up now and feel I need a brand new phone with a new sim, on a different cell network.
