If you choose a reputable one then probably as secure as any website can be. There is always a chance it could be hacked so don't store sensitive information or images there. If you want security then best use a non networked HDD at home.

I Only want to put my graphics and music software on it. I know I'll need an adapter to connect an external hard drive. File transfer shouldn't be a problem but the software I mainly use are on CD ROM (just think of the fun I could have messing aabout with a photograph taken in a pun at a pub table with
Paint shop pro).

Why do you need a adaptor or a hard drive for unless the content is on the hard drive? What device are you using to connect to the net.

I must admit I have been a bit worried about cloudy stuff, but I am using it a bit more, I have some pictures that I want to put onto the cloud, not sure which one yet.
If something is that important, then zip and password them, I have passworded a few files from Excel and dump them onto Drop box. I would use drop box more, but it cost for more storage.

As for security, I do not really know, as been said anything can be hacked.

sorry, my music software are on CD ROM. I've done research, asked questions, collated my information, told the sales bloke at curry's my require ments, know what I want to do with it. Held it, I,be got the SD card, USB charger (I don't need a mouse for it as I can use my moblie phone as one aand it works with my lappy but I wouldn't recommend serious gaming with it but it really does work).
Personaising it might be a probl em due to the millions of wallpapers available....

If you delete stuff off cloud storage it is worth remembering it probably hasn't really been deleted if you do a delete, so if sensitive data either don't upload or encrypt it.

It's very hard to understand what you are saying. What have you bought?

Your posts are very different from when you last posted in 2010.

Part of the security involves which country it is held in. So in the USA, all your data could be passed to the intelligence agency and your host would not be able to tell you this.

Shock horror if they found out your music tastes! If you are so paranoid, why bother go online! Why do people insist on such boring rhetoric?

To original poster, the cloud is fine but treat it with caution e.g. don't put personal details eg bank details, home address on cloud.

Only put stuff that is not sensitive or could lead to identity theft etc.

Ordinary music/photos are fine.

Simple rule to consider - if it got stolen or deleted would it harm you?

Ignore the conspiracy theorists - I am not aware it is contrary to National Security to put pictures of your cat or mp4s of the Smurfs on a Cloud service - mind you perhaps posting Smurfs music online should be a crime .

You don't know .my music taste and anybody looking at my edited photos'd be wondering WTF I'm sometimes on.
But on the other hand some disturbing stuff goes on insome of my stories and I need to keep weapon details (its all for fictional use only and I'm not doing a historical/RAMBO novel.

I'm sorry you find it boring. I find it interesting and disturbing that in a country that purports to be democratic and with a written constitution that is to protect the people from the government, that the same government can ride roughshod over them.

you do realise that the UK is even worse then the US ? Have google for Tempora. Not only does the UK apply for information from service providers, they are hacking directly into the fibre and network cables in the data centers both here and abroad.

As others have said, if you are worried then encrypt before you upload, there are plenty of programs around to do it.

They can do that here, our GCHQ and government is as bad as that over the pond.

Very important (like all passwords) to have a strong password. I use a secure password manager for mine so I only have to remember one password which is locally encrypted. Wasn't the recent iCloud hack guessing passwords and such rather than a hack?
