I know you've tried the Nivea post-shave balms and you weren't impressed - neither am I to be honest - but I find the Nivea for men intense moisturiser (the one that comes in a glass jar) to be very good after running or swimming when I find my skin needs an extra moisture 'boost'. I don't recall being too shiny afterwards.

The Botanics range by Boots is also one that I've had good experiences with, as well as the Bulldog moisturisers. If you like the facewash it might be worth trying the rest of the range.

What shaving product (gel/foam/etc.) do you use? I use the Lab Series Shave Cream and before that I was using the Dove Shaving Cream (I actually only nought the Lab Series one because the shop was sold out of Dove and Lab Series was the only cream they had!) - I definitely find that the creams (as opposed to gels or foams) are kindest to my skin.”

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely take a look at the Nivea Intense moisturiser.
I have just started using mens No7 Energising Moisturiser UV5 SPF15, and I have to say it's not bad. Perhaps I should have always gone for products with SPF levels?
That said, it's still a little shiny so it's not perfect, but it's certainly one of the better recent moisturisers I've tried.

Regarding shaving: I suffer with ingrown hairs, well at least I did. I have tried all sorts of techniques over the years, from cheap cartridge razors like Gillette, various electric shavers, and double edge safety razors.

The cartridge razors were horrible. They were the biggest shaving mistake I ever made, and quite possibly the cause of my then ingrowing hairs. I have since read that all of these heavily marketed 5 bladed cartridge razors are very bad indeed and highly frowned upon by the experts. Obviously plenty of people are happy with them, but they didn't work out for me.

I then moved on to rotary electric shavers. The ingrowing hairs remained, plus I never got a close shave.

After that I moved on to double edge safety razors. All I can say is Ouch!!

A dermatologist then pointed me towards the Braun-Series 7 range. Problem solved.... No more ingrowing hairs and a close shave

In regards to the foams/gels when wet shaving, I think I tried it all. Lab Series / Taylor of old Bond Street - sandalwood / Clinique cream. The list goes on.
