Seeing the Ellie Goulding 50 Shades song I wondered does anyone know what was the first song from a movie soundtrack to have a tie-in video with clips from the film?

specifically clips, not FROM the movie itself ..... would have to come from the eighties, when music videos exploded!

not the beatles either, same requisite!

was thinking FOOTLOOSE or FLASHDANCE ..... the former no as well, since that's also taken in it's entirety

Music videos have existed since the 1920s, though the term wasn't invented until 1959. So it's possible that some of them contained clips from film musicals. Unfortunately the Wikipedia page for the topic is a bit sketchy - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_v....2C_and_shorts .

In particular there were soundies which played on a video jukebox - in the 1940s! See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byGMBwKruwM for a video about soundies.
