My Nexus says there is a 5.1 update ready to download but it seems to be stuck on a 'Waiting to download' page, and doesn't seem to be downloading.

Anyone else got this problem and what is the solution?

My 2012 Nexus 7 did the same a couple of days ago but did eventually install OK it also stuck on the "waiting to download page" I am not sure if the following helped but I did this , Click on "SETTINGS" then "ABOUT TABLET" then "SYSTEM UPDATES" after a couple of tries it started to install.

Doesn't seem to be working for me, I've tried it quite a few times.

Yes cheers that worked, it has down loaded and just about to restart to install.

Thanks for the help.

I hope it helps smooth the OS out as the last update was terrible.

Great

Thought of something else for anyone else having the same problem.
"The waiting to download" message/page MAY ? be an indication that the download is in progress and it may take a while before it vanishes because I think I saw that it is a 110mb download. You would of course need to install it after it had fully downloaded..

I got this yesterday. Left it all day but nothing. Even went into recovery and cleared the cache partition. It finally downloaded about 2245 last night, though whether this was simply a queue on the server waiting to accommodate 10M users or an issue on the tablet I don't know.

Also hoping it improves the user experience as it was shite under 5.0.1(2)

Mine updated to 5.1 a couple of days ago.

So far the only issue appears to be with the wifi/internet. A couple of apps randomly complain there is no internet connection present, e.g ebay. Where as a quick check with say, Chrome, says there is.

P.S. All other devices as happy, such as my phone, at the same time the an app on the Nexus complains.

Maybe there needs to be an update to the ebay app. Or you could try uninstall/reinstall.

The update definitely seems to have improved the OS. It is running a lot more smoothly than before.

Had this installed a couple of days now. 2012 Nexus 7. Surprised to see it so quickly as it took ages to get 5.0.

Really happy with it so far. Much quicker, much smoother, giving me much more confidence in it. Maybe even quicker than KitKat. Very pleased. Just want it for my Nexus 4 now then I'm sorted.

I've left my 2 Nexus 7s (2012 and 2013) on 4.4.4 so far. Both have the 5.0.2 upgrade available and I understand that I must install this before 5.1 will show up.

Question: if I upgrade to 5.0.2, how long will it be before 5.1 shows up on the machines? I don't want them languishing on 5.0.2 for any appreciable length of time. To judge by comments I've read, the 2012 model in particular is likely to be a basket case on 5.0.2.

Can't really say, other than the Nexus 2012 update is available now, it will just depend on where you are in the queue.

How old is your Nexus 7 ? Mine now runs so badly it's unusable . Not just slow , really unusable .

Is that with the 5.1 update or the older update? Have you tried clearing your system and resetting it?

I'm referring to the 5.1 update admittedly I've only had it a couple of days and it might settle down but it still freezes and needs resetting to make it responsive again .

Got mine for my birthday in January 2013. It has been fantastic up until 5.0. but then became exactly as you say. Slow, laggy and mostly completely unusable. Was really pleased when 5.1 turned up, but still had my concerns. However, the only time I see any sort of lag now is when booting from cold. Once fully loaded it's bang on and I'm really happy with it again.

I would say definitely give it a fresh wipe and restore. I did this a couple of weeks ago while still on 5.0 and while it made no difference with that version of Android, it could make a massive difference for you. Especially if you have never done it for this tablet. They do accrue a lot of cruft that needs clearing.

I did a fresh wipe yesterday and indeed it does seem a bit better , though not anywhere near as snappy as my 2013 model .

Well no, but that's a wee bit more powerful. You should still be having a good experience with the 2012 model though.

Still getting "Chrome unresponsive do you want to close" messages quite regularly.

Apparently you can put ubuntu on the Nexus 7 and run linux.

I might do it if I get a new tablet sometime.

You can try and clear the cache from settings | apps.
Or reboot to recovery and clear the cache partition eg http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/most-common...x-them-1478158
scroll to How to Fix Performance Problems in Android Lollipop

Might help, but no guarantee.

I had that a lot with the last update (5.0.2) but I haven't seen this at all with 5.1. Maybe as suggested a wipe of the cache partition could help, but I would have thought a fresh restore to factory settings would have already done that...?

Just had 2 wait close messages.
OK after a reboot but I suspect reboot (power cycle) will be a regular thing .

I did a full wipe and reset after trying the cache partition trick but the difference is barely noticeable , still freezing .
