Let me start by saying that i find kanye west as annoying as the next person but this petition is ridiculous. First of all there are about 15 other stages at glastonbury if you want to see something else. All these people saying "well i'm sending my ticket back" you do realise that the festival takes place over 5days and theres so many other things to see and do.

The person has also wanted to get a rock band instead. What good rock bands are there at the moment? The genre is so dormant that we have to pretend that the foo fighters are amazing when they're the most dreary unorigional rock band going. Also the guy has the ignorance to say that kanye west's music doesn't stand for anything. Funny seeing how alot of the themes in his music involve racial opression, religion, education etc

This comment is also ignorant as anyone with an interest in Rock music would know.

There are loads of great Rock bands out there at the moment, but it is unlikely the vast majority of those who attend Glastonbury would have ever heard of them though...

That was my point though, the only good rock bands around don't have the scope to headline glastonbury. im a massive fan of rock music but none of the bands i like are bands that i could see headlining glastonbury this year

The petition is stupid and immature for a number of reasons. It won't achieve anything being the main one. There's no way the Eavis' will suddenly say "So yeah... Kanye won't be the headliner anymore" just because some people have thrown their toys out of the pram.

I'd also be willing to bet that the vast majority of people who have signed it weren't even going in the first place. And yes, as you say, there are plenty of other stages and things to see and do at Glastonbury that if you are so annoyed about one performer then I'm not sure festivals are for you.

On a third note, he may be a bit of a prat at times, but Kanye West has had some incredible songs over the years. There's bound to be a significant number of people that would be excited to see him with a headline slot, trying to deprive people of that would just be selfish, immature and petty in my opinion.

The petition is ridiculous you're right. It's basically a petition saying 'Please play music we like and sod everyone else'. I thought Jay-Z's appearance had cured this mentality.

The petition has obviously annoyed Kanye fanbois among others and justifies its existence for that reason alone.

No, it's annoyed people who see the ridiculousness of it.

Assuming the people who've signed it actually go and let's face it we have no way of knowing, it's still basically a petition that says they get to choose the acts that play.

I hate Kanye and think he's a terrible choice for the fest, BUT no way would I sign a petition like this, even if I was going (and I'm not). Like the OP said, plenty of other stuff to see and do so Kanye's presence need not be an issue - people wanting refunds are just sad.

I do love the Foo Fighters though, but surely that's the beauty of Glasto - just about anyone can perform there and find an audience!

Who uses the word "fanboy" apart from 14 year old geeks arguing over which is better out of a snes and a sega master system.

Did Jay-Z not happen? This all kicked off before, he turned up put on a brilliant show and everyone forgot about it. Now years later it's happening again. I don't get it.

That bit I do disagree with, there are many genres of music whose bands would never be asked to play, no mattter how popular they are.

Hence the reason why I couldn't care less who is headlining, even when it was Metallica last year as the set they played @ Sonisphere a week or so later was far superior from a fans perspective.

Which underlines my point the genre is far from "dormant" however I agree there aren't many popular Rock bands with sufficient cross-over appeal to headline Glastonbury and that is the point really, the cross over appeal.

Bands like Slipknot and Rammstein could headline as they have the show to justify it but there would be a lot of bewildered Glasto-goers walking around afterwards in the very unlikely event that were to happen.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest who plays Glastonbury cos I don't attend, I imagine the people complaining are 'the hipsters' who only attend as it's the thing to do at a certain time of year.

I wouldnt say glastonbury was a particularly hipster festival. I've been 4 times and its always had a diversity that you don't tend to get at any other festivals, i'd say coachella strikes me as a bit of a hipster festival but then i've never been so who am i to judge. The term hipster is thrown around too much these days

As someone who failed to get a ticket for the first time since 2002, I hope everyone sends their ticket back before the resale!

Anyone complaining about Kanye obviously misses the whole point of Glastonbury, which is the huge diversity of stuff to see.

It was the same when Jay-Z played, but he ended up going down a storm.

As for rock bands, seeing as one of the best live rock bands in thw world also happens to be headlining another night surely has that covered.

Is it a petition against Kanye's music or the fact he seems to be a bit of a tool who may use his slot to rant and rave like a muppet?

Rock has always been a "working man's" kind of music though so where does the elitist come into that?

I don't see an issue, and it can attract people who never normally go to glasto, to perhaps go purely for him.

I had absolutely no issue with Jay Z when he was announced as a headliner for the festival because he's an excellent artist but honestly I can understand why people have an issue with Kanye being the headline act.

I don't think it's mainly to do with the genre of rap music in some people's eyes, it's just not wanting Kanye to bring the Kardashian circus and to rant or throw a strop on stage instead of performing which I wouldn't be surprised if he did. There's a lot of people in this situation who believe Kanye fans are inferior to them and a lot who think Kanye haters are inferior and to me it's a bad attitude to have. It's a lot easier if you try to understand both sides in my view

If there was only 2 stages then i would be supporting this petition, but Glastonbury has loads of other stages. I liked"Through The Wire", but as a whole i'm not a fan. Like you've said if you don't want to watch Kanye West, then go to another stage!

Kanye makes pop music so no doubt he'll go down pretty well. Everyone will be mashed anyway so will just be dancing along. No harm.

Last year a lot of people moaned about Arcade Fire headlining asking who they were, but they still pulled a massive crowd and delivered a fantastic set. I don't think it really matters as Glastonbury is SO big, anyone who thinks its all about the three main headliners is very much missing the point!

Remove the word petition from the title and you've got it spot on.
