At first I felt like it was rubbish. It seemed to be just showing off new monster costumes with a weak story and mildly amusing dialogue...

....but as soon as the robotic spiders appeared it showed that it was going to be better than that.

I really enjoyed that episode.
No it wasn't a scary episode, but the production, script, and acting was top notch.

And the dialogue was much more realistic, and often funnier than in episode one.
Doctor and Rose were much more like real people in this episode.
Normally you'd expect the doctor's companion to just get on with it in the second episode, but Rose was scripted to still ask questions, and still have suspicions, distrust and uncertainty about the Doctor.

And the incidental music was sorted out this week.

And the pacing was perfect.

Good little story, and it showed the Doctor reveal a little more about himself.
And you really cared about his wooden female friend when she sacrificed herself and burnt to death.
And it was a good scene where she knew who he was, what had happened to him, and held his hand, where the Doctor them shed a tear for whatever did happen..

More references to "The War" again, just like in the first episode with the Autons.

And that was a great scene at the end where The Doctor just closed his eyes and walked through that giant fan blade. Good exciting stuff.

By the way, when you first saw those giant fan blades rotationg near the start of the episode, did anyone think ...."Computer Game"?

Good episode. The dialogue was more realistic, and I felt it worked much better than last week as far as narrative flow goes.

Better than last week in many ways.
It didn't need to have the cram everything in to grab all kinds of viewers, it was able to get the pacing and storytelling pitched just right.

And Billie Piper was excellent in this episode. Better than in episode 1.

The series looks very promising.

Heh, fat chance, there's probably about 10k people on there, the chance of getting your question answered is next to nil.

I think we can imagine the reason for cancellation! Fielding the same questions time and again, re future of series, will get a bit tedious for RTD when he wants to discuss the current one.

What a great 45mins that was. Glorious.

Much better special effects than the old days, for sure, and the aliens looked alot better than they used to - even in the McCoy years, they still looked like the costumes had been designed by primary school kids (tinfoil and tissue paper

Lots of borrowed ideas, from Hitch-Hiker's to Stargate (the mechanical spiders reminded me of the replicants).

The humour quotient was pretty high - I think it's good it doesn't take itself too seriously.

And I'm intrigued about what's happened to Galifrey. Destroyed in a war? All the Time Lords gone? I hope the Master is still around somewhere, though...

The second episode was terrific, way better than the first.

It had just the right mix of wit and drama, and some neat satire as well.
A great turn by Zoe Wannamaker was the icing on the cake.

Eccleston is brilliant, I so wish he would have agreed to do a second series.

Piper is a revelation, a real asset to the show. Unlike many of her predecessors, her character feels believable.

Only about fifty years between them, whats 50 in 5 Billion?

I thought it was great this week and very funny.

Douglas Adams was a script editor for Dr Who at its height and wrote a 3 stories. It is a fitting tribute to make the odd nod in his direction.

Will the only songs anyone will care about in 5 billion years be Soft Cell & Britney? Surely not the height of music culture!

Wow - I am seriously impressed with that episode - it was a massive improvement on last weeks.

After the last episode, I was starting to wonder if the doctor would play his roll seriously at all but this episode put paid to those fears.

Although some of the effects looked CGI'd (at least to me), think the graphics team did a remarkable job in this episode, especially (according to DH Confidential), as they only had 8 weeks in which to create 203 special effect shots.

I felt that there was a lot more suspense in this episode and it was paced better than last weeks which was rather rushed to cram everything in.

All in all, if the rest of the series is as good or better than this one, I'll be well happy

Half Life certainly sprang to mind.

I thought it was very good - although i was aprehensive at first, as i was told last week's episode contained some crappy self-replicating bin. The acting was brilliant and i especially love Eccleston's "down to earth" (excuse the pun) Northern-wit.

I can see this being a bit of a problem then, considering that's what Doctor Who has been all about since it started.
What with it being about a time travelling Time Lord

Loved tonights show 10/10!

I loved this ep but the whole time travel thing annoys me. The tree thing died, lots of people were killed, his planet was destroyed....can't he just time travel back to before all this stuff happened? Save everyone on the station and save his world. Badabing, badaboom!

I think Eccleston is a great actor he makes the show very enjoyable and fresh im gona hate to see him go i really hope he changes his mind.

The episode as a whole was great. I originally had relaxed judgement on the first in the series, it seemed a little childish to begin with, but tonights show was incredible in every sense of the word. As a keen admirer of graphics, i thought the production was amazing, the script was great and seemed well sculpted around the characters personalities. Not sure whether i'm glad that Eccleston's decided to quit next season, i think he's done a great job at the already aired episodes.

Hmmm, it was pretty good, but not amazing, I think I'm slightly disappointed.

I've noticed a slightly annoying trend, people might have talked about pace last week, but the final action sequences are too long. Tonights action sequence with the giant fans was PAINFULLY long, I mean how many times does he need to look back at treewoman? If he hadn't hung about so much, he could have saved her. Sorry, but for the second time, I haven't been gripped by the final action sequence.

I liked the humour again though, a few good gags, like the Ipod gag, some clever jokes. Definately better, cleverer dialog than the average sci-fi show. Loved the "Toxic" bit too. The phone bit edged on the silly, but it was worth it for the "phone bill" joke. Rose's emotional pieces bored me alittle, but still pretty good acting from Billie.

Good, but not amazing, the effects were great, but RTD needs to sort out his action sequences for the second series. 7 1/2 out of 10 from me, I'll definately stick with it though.

I was (albeit subconsciously) aware of that.

I would say that the CGI isn't the best ever it still doesn't stand up against US Sci-Fi material, however I would say its some of the best CGI I have seen on a UK TV series.
