I'm starting to get really irritated by the amount of comments I see on YouTube Videos of old songs, that go something like this

"I'm 14 years old but I love this music and hate today's music because it's all about Twerking, Niggers, Hos and The Club but these songs have real meaning. I was born in the wrong generation. All we have today is crappy Nicki Minaj, Justin Beiber and One Direction"

There's nothing wrong with being 14 and liking music from the 80s but I just find their apparent reason for liking 80s music, instead of today's annoying, because it's not true. If you took a look at the top 40 right now, only 2 of the songs even mention any of those things, one being by chris brown but he hardly represents the whole of today's music does he and neither do Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. Also they will claim the song they are listening to at the time has real meaning, even though it's lyrics aren't really any different to something by the likes of Sam Smith etc.

I'm not even a huge fan of much top40 music from the last few years myself but it's for different reasons to the twerking and hoes theme (because that's actually a minority of songs) and I don't feel the need to mention my dislike for it on every single 90s/80s/70s YouTube video that I visit. I just find it irritating, attention seeking and wonder why they seem to think they are so unique and deserve a reward or something for listening to music from before their time.

Does this irritate anyone else?

Yes it is annoying, but the problem is that an interactive source like Youtube is going to have a platform in which people can leave inane or even offensive comments without much moderation.

I suppose they could just be tired of being told by their friends or other kids at school that their musical tastes are weird and outdated and don't have anywhere else to express it apart from reaching out to other fans who will be watching the videos.

LOL

I also see this on Facebook.

It's tedious as if they're saying I beat everyone else to comment on this video/photo to suggest they are *artists* biggest fan.

Just...no!!!

On another note, do people actually sit there and read through pages of comments on YouTube? I ain't got time for that.

I don't go through pages of comments as such, then just dig down the comments which have about 30 replies

As someone of similar age, I find it incredibly annoying. Who cares?

Really it's just vanity, trying to look cool and different. They think there great liking this sort of music.

Yes I like older music than the crap of today, but I don't shout it from the rooftops. Everyone' s each to their own, and if people my age like Nicki Minaj, Bieber etc so be it.

I watch a lot of YouTube videos. mainly jazz.
Comments on these tend to be made by enthusiasts of the genre, most of whom seem to know what they are talking about.
Rarely is there anything to which someone could take objection.

"There's adults for you."

But to be honest, I rarely read any comments, I'm not that bothered what other people think. Nor can I get "offended" on behalf of someone who uploaded a video.

I've uploaded a lot of videos to YouTube, of my various interests, I can prevent anyone from commenting on them but I don't. I can also remove any comments about my video which I don't like which I have done a couple of times. Anyone who uploads a video to YouTube can do the same.

I'm not bothered about teenagers who prefer 90s or 80s music compared to today's stuff.

I don't like it when videos have "so and so brought me here" repeatedly.

I HATE how some (not all) fans commented that Mariah's Shake It Off was stolen from the Taylor Swift song. Despite Mariah's song, a completely different one at that, came out about 10 years earlier.

Don't read youtube comments. It'll make you lose faith in humanity. It's just people offending for the sake of it - either genuinely because they are filled with spite and that's the environment they feel safe to express themselves, or for some sort of weird entertainment in itself - which somehow seems worse.

All online interaction is a bit suspect really. You don't really see the best of people behind a veneer of anonymity. (I realise the irony of me posting this online.)

I hate the whole 'Like if you're listening to this in 2015'. No-one actually cares and near enough everyone listens to songs from past years. Then you get people who think they are funny and write something like 'Like if you're listening to this in 2254'.

They are some though that are not spiteful, but actually believe the crap they are spouting. Sometimes I'm incredulous at reading some comments, because it amazes me people think like this. YouTube comments far surpass Daily Mail comments and some DS comments for sheer vitriol and ignorance. I remember reading comments on a video about Ched Evans, and as you predicted there, it made me lose faith in humanity.

Another video which comments alarmed me was by a blogger, AlyBongo.
In the video, she talks about how on Twitter she revealed she was followed/set upon by big men who she thought were going to rape her. When she made the tweet some followers asked what she was wearing. In her next vlog, this normally bubbly girl was in tears disgusted that this was issue. But in the comments section below, some YouTubers were saying that if she was dressing a certain way, she was leaving herself open to be raped. Unbelievably some of these comments were among the highest rated. The tactlessness and lack of education by those who comment such things and thumb up such things is just mind-blowing

Sorry I know I'm going off-topic for a music forum, but I had to get that off my chest.

Better than the 'You say Miley Cyrus, I say Nirvana. You say Justin Bieber, I say Pink Floyd' type comments that were a trend a few years ago.

I don't know what it is about youtube, but it really does bring the moronic side of the human race out in full force.

The uploader of the video can delete any comments to which they object. Maybe those who don't, can't be assed about these comments?

What annoys me is when you're on youtube listening to an awesome, beautiful deep song and some idiot in the comments writes something like
'I f.ucked someone in the ass to this song yeah'

Well thank you for ruining the song.

And people who post things like 'listening to this on my istone/ipebble' or 'in 2068'.
Oh do shut up.

I rarely look at comments on YouTube videos, I'm not really interested in what other people think of the one I'm watching/listening to.

Sometimes there's an interesting comment like trivia about the song, but yes decent comments are rare.
