Wife keeps showing me magazine adverts (think it was for make up) with that girl outta The Affair . . . . .

12 Months ago don't think the wife woulda recognized her!
Never watched Luther then.

I stopped watching it.
The style is interesting but the content is tedious and self indulgent and so middle class angst.

Was a bit disappointed with last nights. Felt like a lot of filler and not a lot of content.

It was oddly understated given that it was the big reveal to both families.

I want to know whether it really is over between Noah and Alison...and I would like to know what the note said.

me too! I think we'll find out in the end. I'm not sure it's really over. There's still 3 episodes to go.

Did anyone notice in the flash forward a couple weeks ago when Alison was being questioned, she said "I have to go, I have to go pick up my kid" - could she be pregnant by Noah? That would certainly fill the next 3 eps!

Doubtful.

In last night's episode Cole asked her to stop taking the Pill. When she was house sitting for her friend Phoebe she told Noah she was taking it but she seemed worried about STD's he might pass to her so he wasn't using condoms.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. Couldn't watch any more after all the Ruth Wilson " sex face" stuff. Put me right off!

You can get pregnant on the pill..and we know they weren't using condoms so it is a possibility. I don't know I'm just trying to guess at what the content for the last 3 episodes could be.

Very rare though as the Pill is between 99% and 99.7% effective. I think Cole's really desperate for a child, but not so sure Alison is as keen.

Strange how when the detective went to The End there was nobody called Solloway who'd booked into a room, but he didn't he think to ask if anyone named Bailey had been there.

I do know who the person is who's been murdered though, but I'm not saying!

Didn't we find out at the end of episode five that Scotty was the victim?

Yeah we know it's Scott.

There's some elements of this that I think are great. Firstly, I love the contrast in stories between Noah and Alison and also I love the way the storyline is slowly revealing itself. The craftsmanship in the screenplay is very impressive.

I'm not too keen on the sex scenes and the "sex faces" as noted in a previous post. The music when they're having intimate moments is really off putting. That's my put on the kettle moment.

Weirdly though I think the sex scenes in game of thrones are great.

My wife says that when they booked into the room, they paid cash, Noah apparently saying that his wife checked bank/credit card statements.
He came up short, having given his friend $40 for the coke in the taxi, so Alison ponied up the cash, and that way they could use any name they liked to register.

Sorry to correct your wife, but she's mixing up two different hotels. The one where Alison paid the $40 in cash was there first tryst on Block Island with that hideous wall paper that made me want to throw up. The End is a bar come hotel by the looks of things this was well into the affair, and this was the same day Max bought the coke (and not long before Noah finds out about the drug dealing.

Gotta say I love this show and disappointed that it's not getting more coverage on Digital Spy.

Didn't pick up on Alison's reference to her 'kid' in the flash forward, but I did notice that she said they were driving back to the City. Possibly her and Cole use their ranch money to buy somewhere in New York together???? But I can't help but think that Noah and Allison must have more to do with each other otherwise why would their relationship be so important to the investigation.

that was a different hotel - sorry, it was on a island that Alison took Noah too

Did anyone spot that usually, the first half of the episode is from Noah's perspective and the second half from Alison's, but in episode five it was the other way around?

I did, and wondered about it too. I hope we get all the loose ends tied up in the final three episodes.

Yes I noticed, and I am thinking there must be a reason for that.

Scotty is the victim, and Alison does have a kid in the flash forward (or at least she says that she does) - I too am wondering whether the child will be Noah's, and am also interested to see if Noah and Helen stay together.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't e4 do away with the POV angle all together?

Perhaps it switches now to Alison's story first until the end of the season because Noah's interpretation of what's happening in A's life (criminality, death of brother in law) becomes more important.

For me there was loads going on in this episode.

1. Alison's mother in law's possible early onset Alzheimers after she left the bath running and caused a flood..

2. The fact Alison took a pregnancy test but we don't know if she's pregnant or not as we never saw a close up of the test stick. If she's pregnant it's probably Cole's as he told her to stop taking the pill and she hasn't seen Noah for months.

3. Alison looking at her little boy's toybox. Ruth Wilson's performance was so moving here. Why the hell did mother in law take charge of it when it was Alison's to take?

4. Alison's grandmother's death and her awful mother leaving her to cope with the aftermath.

5. Horrid old Bruce's revelation that he too had an affair and thought about the girl every day. Also his vulnerability came through in this episode with his reliance on Noah to get him out of the chair because of his arthritis.

6. Helen and Noah's visit to the therapist with Helen revealing such a lot about their early relationship compared to now.

So........not much at all really.
