I haven't seen Friday's program, catch the repeat later.
I don't get the confusion over this sort of thing, yes there are lots of 'popular' films that huge swathes of people have never seen.
The key points/scenes soon end up been discussed or been referenced, jokes made about it.

Like everything else that makes the edit, if there's no response, there's nothing worthy of making the edit.
I'd say most people aren't huge film buffs, no matter how many films they watch and don't remember whole swathes of script or scenes.
Unless it's a favourite film they mostly remember a few key scenes or that they had an emotional response to, at the time.
They know 'there's a good bit coming up' they can't always remember exactly why it's a good bit even as it's unfolding in front of them.
Explains why some of the Goggleboxers get so excitable, as the memories start flooding back, we've all been there.
I'd guess with the family's there's the added bonus of the parents telling the children what's going on or winding them up, ready for a key scene and seeing their children responding to it for the first time.
