Yes I was wondering the same too...

Admittedly at first I found it hard to understand them i.e. without subtitles on but, when I stopped trying to scrutinise each word and let it flow over me...it became more clear.

I had no problem understanding them, didn't even think about it, and despite working with a lot of non-english speakers, I'm not the best with accents.
I can only assume those producing the program didn't have a problem with them or they wouldn't have made the cut.

I hope Rev Kate is back soon, partially because she's a lefty like myself and partially because it pees off the regulars on here.

I'm wondering why the pool of people who post rather than lurk on this place (TV forums) is so small.
As I've said before you'd get a larger range of people in your local pub of an evening.

This seems to be a regular comment about accents from Glasgow.

I never criticise anyones accent and there are some that are very difficult. Glaswegian is not a difficult accent to understand, if it were there would not be as many Call Centres based in or close to the city

I love the weegie accent, I think its the speed of their speech that makes people not understand it although this family dont speak particularly fast imo. I find the estuary accent very slow in particular, especially outside London in the big sprawl and when I first moved to the UK I was impatient listening to them, I didn't have this problem with Northerners, Scots or Welsh folk

I like the Glasgow accent too, but then I am biased as it is the only one I have used. ever

Its Birmingham and towns around there I have slight problem with, but only a slight one. I find once you get a few words the rest just follows naturally

I think there is a definite snobbery about accents but I live in the North east of england which has the best accent ever (except when brenda Blethyn attempts it)

Ha ha, good name! With Caroline Aherne's somewhat childlike narration, I always want her to introduce the family as "Mummy Moffatt, Daddy Moffatt..." etc.

I've always liked them. They seem really natural. I still like the Moffats too even though they get some stick on here. Love Lee and Jenny too. I've met Lee somewhere in Hull at a party but it was years ago.

The only ones who seem totally false and scripted are the girls from Leeds

I like them too. They're quite understated - which makes for a good mix.

I love it that Shirley uses proper valleys Welsh grammar eg "Where have it gone?"

Yes that's true...I hadn't thought of that before. Giles & Mary are my favs but I also like the Michaels and George Gilbey a lot too. I quite like the caravan friends, and the 2 gays (who we will lose soon due to being on Celeb Big Brother).

Sandy and Sandra I wouldn't miss if they were axed. They often make me cringe.

What was it at the end of the Marcella sex scene that seemed to horrify some of the Goggleboxers? Did Marcella do something to her husband?

As the camera cut away it just looked like he was having a more physical, demonstrative push/orgasm but I could well be wrong.
