I could never understand why David Bowie would sing a ballad with Bing Crosby....not exactly in keeping with his image - was he selling out?

Mary's rendition of Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody, (and Giles reaction) has to be one of the funniest things I have seen on Gogglebox this year. Her facial expressions whilst singing made it for me!

That's interesting. It becomes more understandable now, i.e. that David's mother liked Crosby.

Yes her expressions showed how she felt about the song which, I must admit, grates on my ears too...especially when they yell out "it's CHRISTMAS!!!" (covers ears!)

I don't like that Giles has switched to calling Mary 'Nutty'.
He never did that in previous series so it just sounds very contrived.

Nope. And neither has O/H.
Did they over-egg what a classic it is?

For classic old films at holidays I think more of Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, Great Escape, Christmas Carol, Ben Hur etc.

Yes I've seen it loads of times. Danny Kaye is very good, and Vera-Ellen is lovely in it.

i loved the wizard of oz as a kid , but it always felt like it went on all day ,, its only on for 1 hour 40 minutes i think , as a 10 year old it seems a life time, the same with Charlie and the Chocolate factory

Yes it happened just like that: The song was first used in the film "Holiday Inn" and the song became so popular that they decided to cash in on that by writing a whole film round the song.

Like most 'cash in' films it wasn't up to much.

It's an affectionate name that they BOTH use!

Why not? It obviously has some kind of amusing history that we are not privvy to.

If I was either Stephen or Chris's fiancé I'd be worried. How much flirting was going on last night? That was beyond two former lovers, now mates, having the old flirty banter it seemed quite loaded.

And Lee asking Jenny why she'd got him gloves on a string "I'm 47!!!" 😀

I'm surprised that anyone watches this contrived "look at me" tripe anymore!! Like a lot of shows, it was a good idea initially but now that the so called "general members of the public" are so unnatural and just trying to make names for themselves, it is unwatchable.

They have been doing it since they first came on on the show, not sure why people are only noticing now.

Its only recently that i've noticed this 'Nutty' name they call each other, and they seem to use it almost every time they address each each other now.
Previously they always addressed each other by their names Mary & Giles.

Doesn't really bother me but it stands out as a recent thing to me.

Probably comfortable enough to use pet names now.

How can it be unwatchable if people are watching it?

Why be surprised? We 'know' the characters more now so they can grow on you.
