Because I don't think they are intellectual in the least. They are about as erudite as a housebrick, affected and false. A couple of two bit words do not an intellectual make.
I find them uninteresting and their comments are generally asinine. Giles particularly.

Giles and Mary were amusing over the socks thing. She clearly was showing she had the upper hand with that but then Giles got her back whilst she tried to understand milligrams....by saying that she was never very good at maths! Ha!

It was nothing really, just something like "Don't talk bloody rubbish", fairly playfully. Hardly a tirade of abuse.

I think you are being too pedantic here. It is obvious that Giles is a deep thinker and has a large vocabulary. Do you want him to solve the world's problems or something? Gogglebox is just light entertainment not Newsnight. I don't understand your comment about him being false. I can spot a fake a mile off....he wants to be seen favourably but then so do they all.

I think the word you use "asinine" is much more appropriate in describing some of the other viewers on this show.

Thanks, I was a bit puzzled!

I don't like him. You do. Let's agree to differ.

Lucky you as it was a pointless load of rubbish.

I was dumbfounded by the reaction from the panel and audience too - they seemed to believe that the dog was actually talking.

Agreed - most prominent part of tonight's show was on horse-racing and two party political broadcasts. Whoooo

I felt sorry for the Siddiqui dad being belittled like that. He handled it very gently/gracefully with his soft "sorry" reply.

I was uncomfortable about that talking dog act....it smacked of something underhand, i.e. possibly something physically cruel about that sort of manipulation since it didn't look like a real mouth. Ah just googled...apparently the dog is wearing a mask over its snout.

It really doesn't but I see no point in quibbling about it.

I was waiting for somebody to say that the Saharan dust graphic on the news looked like the Dad's Army titles

I found it amusing that several viewers picked up the reporter's inadequate terminology in saying the word "stuff". Giles got it right by saying the word was "particulates"

The repeating of "stuff" was a bit funnier though

Well, I'm easily pleased (and I'm not, ask my husband) I enjoy the diversity of Gogglebox. Sandy and Sandra, the Brighton lads, the moffats, the new 'smart couple', Steph and Dom, the caravan duo, I love the Siddiquis, Leon and June, etc... I don't agree with them and I do roll my eyes regularly but as a whole, googlebox is still a good tv hour. It's not perfect but it beats a hell of other programmes.

I don't think Giles was trying to be funny in his correction...

Yes...if you don't expect too much of it, then it is a pleasant way to spend an hour. They were really animated with the Grand National race - a good choice to show their emotionally engaged side....although Giles managed to remain unaffected - just remarking that his horse wasn't mentioned.

An okay episode, to an okay series. As someone else said, if you go in not expecting much then it's still an alright, light-entertainment hour on a Friday night.

Wish there had been less Grand National coverage. I disapprove of it myself, though understand it's watched by the masses - featuring it makes logical sense, but a whole quarter of the episode dedicated to it was too much.

Not a problem with Gogglebox but I do find the broadcast of the SNP PPB in England to be somewhat redundant. It's readily available online for those who want to watch it, and the majority of Scots (i.e. those actually in Scotland) would be able to watch it on regional television. Only 1 in 13 people even have the option to vote for them anyway, how many of those 1 in 13 actually live outside of Scotland? The same can be said for Plaidd Cymru.

Game of Thrones is amazing and I'm glad to see it covered by Gogglebox (I suspected it would be after they aired another Sky Atlantic show the other week) but it seemed a bit pointless for them to show it to people who clearly don't watch already (felt a bit sorry for the hostility towards the Siddiqui dad - clearly not meant to sound so strong, and it was so unexpected from that particular family). People find it hard enough to keep up with it already apparently, let alone dumping them five seasons in! I thought this was also the reason they never bothered covering Doctor Who: Series 8 before.

On the subject of Gogglebox only featuring English households, I think it's been brought up before that the reason for this is down to production constraints. It's already quite a challenge for the filming crews to get out to the locations that they do, with some footage being attained the Thursday night before broadcast. Having to reach Scotland, moreso Northern Ireland, and the majority of Wales would be an added difficulty. Note how they also lack anybody from the southwest of England as well - supporting the idea it's simply due to accessibility rather than any undue preference for English participants.

Yesterdays PEB was by the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition. The instant I saw it in the listings, I thought Leon would happily dump Millipede & Labour for them like a shot while June rolls her eyeballs!
