I do recall the dad moving back in his chair with the ferocity of which the son proclaimed scorn about mixing LOTR with GOT... I am also good at reading tones and facial expressions.

I hope you are right but I saw the look in the dad's eyes - not at all lighthearted/playful.

Mary and Giles are fast becoming favourites for me following the conversation about the socks. Who could have seen that coming?

Yes loved that! A little glimpse into their lives...she obviously controlled the strings on that issue but he got her back over her poor maths ability later (when she was trying to work out milligrams). Ha..

That's what made his outburst all the more shocking, he's always been light hearted before without wandering into the territory of being disrespectful. Even if it was meant to be a joke, it was still innapropriate for him to speak to his father like that- on national television too

In the asian community, the head of the family and elders are still revered and respected.

Even the gobby asian youths that you see on street corners will often defer to their superiors in private.

This will have brought an amount of shame onto the family and, whilst he probably won't be punished for this, i'm almost certain that he will be formally admonished by, if not his father off camera, another family elder.

Didn't dad Sid mention Harry Potter re. the GOT quibble? That's what seemed to irk him and he was a bit snappy when he asked what he was on about. Dad looked a bit hurt/awkward, but I doubt he'll throw the lads out for it. His son must be a huge fan to get that touchy though. Still my fave family.

Well, whatever the reason, I think it extremely unlikely that we will see him speak to his father like that again.

They must be a fairly modern family to be on Gogglebox in the first place and some of the views that have been expressed in the past seem to endorse this, but in asian culture, their is a line that must not be crossed.

It won't be crossed on national television again; his family will make sure of that.

Yes - that is how I saw it play out.

Really enjoyed this weeks episode, some great moments, Dom and Steph, the Moffats, Gilles and Mary all very funny, the tappers and sids great as always, I actually found Leon bearable this week and did laugh at his comment RE Simon Crowell.
The Sandys were annoying as always but all in all a very entertaining hour of tv

I think of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones as pretty much 'the same thing' along with Lord of the Rings......magic and dragons and elves and all that stuff

Mind, I haven't actually seen any of them.......

Giles has got a dry sense of humour. Good to see Mary finally laugh. I thought she was a bit too serious in the beginning.

They are a great match...he can obviously make her laugh and both are artists. I am glad they were showed more airtime this week.

I don't for a second think that Baasit was being genuinely horrible to lovely Dad Sid.

It's probably been an ongoing joke, that can happen when one member of the family has an obsession about a TV show or band, and the rest of the family take the mickey.

(I thought it was Harry Potter that was mentioned, not LOTR?)

In fact, if you look at Baasit's and Sid's tweets on Twitter, they are having a joke on there about it, with Sid even asking people not to be too hard on Baasit and Baasit admitting to being a 'nerd'.

As for the Moffet girl saying that the so-called "talking"dog was better than Pudsey (I won't use her words as I am better mannered that that), I wondered where her brain was. Pudsey is doing things that he obviously enjoys doing and are things that a dog can be trained to do. The "talking" dog was just sitting there whilst his owner did all the rest via a mask. I noticed as well that the poor dog was shaking all the time and I felt sorry for it. I am surprised that the panel can't see the cruelty there.”

She has no brain or sense. She proves that every week when she opens her mouth.

I am sure the RSPCA got involved about the dog. Not sure if there was any outcome tho. Poor little mite was terrified

I don't watch BGT any more but was gutted for that little dog. I hate when the animals clearly don't enjoy the 'performing' and that's one of the reasons I stopped. That and the godawful singers.

Yes it doesn't surprise me that they have softened what transpired. The fact that Baasit admits to being a nerd would indicate why he has strong feelings about GOT. I could tell this straight away when he mentioned the programme - clearly an established fan.

If I may chuck in my two bits worth here, prime example of just how passionate folk can get about their "thing" eg a TV program. Sid jnr made it clear from the start that he thought GOT was the best telly EVER. So, like me, when dad said he "didn't get it" and boxed it with HP and LOTR - I started watching ep 1 twice and couldn't get past 15 mins - jnr exploded! Maybe other son could have piped up coz he clearly didn't get it either. Of course he didn't have a real issue with dad, but love a family squabble about nothing in particular. It's real. And so are the Siddiquis. Why expect different from them just becaus they are Muslim?

That's the point...it wasn't banter!!! Anyway, Sid has said not to be too hard on Baasit (who is a confessed nerd and obviously a keen defender of all that is GOT) so it's all good. Normal service has resumed.

Just because they're Asian it doesn't mean they're traditional. They could be very liberal and believers in free speech.

Why do you think your elders are your superiors? I wouldn't view anyone as superior to me just because they were born earlier.

Anyway it's not like they swore at their dad.
