Maybe it's because of sc4 does Scotland have its own channel 4 too?
Scotland doesn't have a seperate Channel 4 (Like the BBC Supported S4C in Walsh). However Channel 4 does have a Channel 4 Scotland feed, but it is only used for regional adverts, so unlike BBC 2, for example, there is no Scotland only opt-outs when it comes to programme scheduling.

Exactly. The exact same thing happened over on the Worst TV Adverts thread. I then said pretty much the same thing as you did (politely suggesting that Worst Advert forum was the wrong place and they should move the discussion to either Politics or General Discussion section) as well as providing the statistic that 60% of adult brits bet on the Grand National race and that 80% of people fully support the running of the race.

I was then asked for proof of my stats (I think they thought I'd made them up) so I gave them a link directly to the actual report.

After that the whole thing kind of ended except for one final posting saying that I was trying to dictate what could be discussed. I then ended it by replying that all I did was suggest that a light hearted thread on bad advertising was not the place for a political/moral debate, whilst at the same time giving people statistical facts to counter-balance the anti horse racing mobs moral outrage.

I then wished both sides of the debate well and that I wouldn't be engaging anymore with the subject, leaving both sides with my logic that on this matter that everyones opinion is the right one, as this is a moral issue and if you find horse racing cruel then don't support it, but please don't try and heavy hand or shoehorn your morale opinion into some kind of 'better than thou' highground against those who disagree or don't support your personal moral outlook.
But of course, you, bringing it up here again, being off topic and not once mentioning Gogglebox, is OK?

I don't watch BGT any more but was gutted for that little dog. I hate when the animals clearly don't enjoy the 'performing' and that's one of the reasons I stopped. That and the godawful singers.
I don't watch that or any programmes like them and do not like animals in these shows

I only found out as FB had a post that the RSPCA are involved. No doubt he is back in France so nothing will be done

That would be Lee. Interesting eyebrows.

It's real. And so are the Siddiquis. Why expect different from them just becaus they are Muslim?
I've no idea if they're Muslims or not (is this definate BTW?)

What I'm saying is that in asian culture it is expected that the head of the family is respected and that no shame is brought onto the family.

This can even go so far as including murder as punishment. Now, I don't think that for a minute that the son will lose his life, but I can almost guarantee that he will be admonished if not by his father, by a family elder for speaking to his father like that and for using a mild profanity too.

It isn't actually relevant as to whether he was joking or not; his outburst was unacceptable.

I'm not Asian and if any son of mine spoke to me like that (be it on national television or not); he would be given a very stern talking to. If any son of mine spoke to me in the way that that Louie spoke to his parents, i'd take my stick to him.

You must be in the minority as I'm sure most people are sick of these 2 playing up to the cameras

Maybe it would be good if they were booted off the show as it might give them an excuse to get off the sofa and get some exercise
I agree with you. Sandie and Sandra drive me and my family mad. They are so stupid and yet think they are really funny and are encouraging each other to play up to the camera more and more. They have notices up and a cross to show that they are Christians and then ask if Jesus was born in Rome. Either they are completely stupid or are just thinking that they are being funny, and they are not.

I think it is more than time that they were dropped from Gogglebox.
I agree. They were OK at first, but are now just playing up to the camera (badly).

As in Coach Trip, these programmes start out well, but as they become more popular, they are tweaked (we now see them having conversations outside of commenting on TV programmes) and the participants start to act up to the camera.

I have knowledge of this area and know many asians of various cultures and religions.

I can almost guarantee that we won't see the son speak to his father like that again.

But you don't know every single Asian family that ever existed.

Every family unit is different. The Siddiqui family might not believe in physical punishment.

Why are you so obsessed with domestic violence anyway? Maybe that's the way you do things but Britain is becoming a more progressive place whether you like it or not.

And Sid and his family are a really good example of an Asian family that are well integrated, you know, the ones the Daily Mail says we need more of.

Appropriate physical punishment has it's place within the realms of discipline.

However, from what little I know about them, I think that Mr Siddiqui Snr would probably prefer to have a stern word with his son. If he doesn't, i'm pretty confident that a family elder will call him in to be admonished.

Family honour and being respectful to elders/parents etc is very important in some cultures and in extreme cases can lead to murder in so called 'honour killings'.

The example below shows how a woman was stabbed to death for using her mobile phone and disrespectfully saying "go home" to her father:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...r-killing.html

Can you imagine what would have happened if she had said what was said to Mr Siddiqui on Gogglebox

I originally looked up this forum to make a point about the lazy/borderline racist sterotyping that has gone on Gogglebox the past 2 weeks (and then got sidetracked by the exact same situation that happened a week or so ago on another thread).

Last week Ralf said (and I'm not 100% sure it was meant as a joke) the following:-

"Wales, its just England's car park!". Based on how the rest of the household reacted I assume he was being serious.

This week it was the Scots who got the lazy sterotyping with joke about why everyone in the SNP PPB looked normal, and not all wearing kilts and tossing the caber.

I look forward to next week when they show the families a UKIP PPB (as the closest thing to a main stream England Only party) and they go on about why everyone in England look normal when the stereotype should be that the middle and upper class english should all be wearing suits and bowler hats, and the working class english should all be unwashed, in a pub with an ale in one hand and in the other the bit of string attached to a whippet.

Of course this will never happen as on UK TV it is ok to take the piss out of the Scots and the Welsh, its ok to demonise the unemployed, lower working class and foreigners - but don't ever say anything negative or funny about the English Working Class or the elderly - as this demographic generally bitch and complain, join like minded groups that just reaffirm their outlook on life, vote and generally have either a distrust or thinly vailed hatred and or disgust of those who are 'not like them'.

Was this Gogglebox related enough?

Yes, but the Siddiqui sons are adults so are too old to be disciplined.

We have to remember that they don't really live with their father, they're only visiting him.

Age and whether they still live with their parents or not matters not to many asian families.
If they show a lack of respect to their parents/elders, break the law, bring shame/embarrassment on the family etc- it is dealt with.

I know an Indian shopkeeper in his 40's, he got into a drunken fight with another Indian man. Their parents got together, stated that they didn't want the police to be involved and sorted it out themselves.

I don't know what went on as that is considered private, but both men and their families got together in the house of the shopkeepers mother and both ended up shaking hands and the matter ended there and then.

I would welcome Mr Siddiqui as a neighbour, and his sons, I was under the impression that the son who's wife had a daughter last year was, white.

I love the 2 friends in the Mobile Home in Hull, Lee cracks me up,
Still not keen on the Moffatts, Vicar or Leon.

Mary and her Husband well what can you say, seems a nice house, but they are always squashed in a corner.

I find Ralph quite funny at times.

In tonight's programme I understand that on the advice of Richardcoulter one of Sid's sons will be publicly stoned to death.

Well either the plane will crash, she'll be eaten by crocodiles, or some high priest will pull her heart out of her chest.

More likely to get sunburn though.
