I've often thought we need a meeting point for fans of these dramas, not to discuss any one in particular but to announce and talk about what's coming up, which ones you enjoyed or would like to see and comparing different series.
In the past there have been series other than those on BBC4 and I missed the start because I didn't know they were onand didn't see the appropriate channel listings. You can't search for a thread igfyou don't know the title! Please announce series here on this thread but for discussion of the 'current' ones in detail please start a thread and put a link in this thread. Coming up tonight Montalbano 9pm BBC4. Not sure but probably a repeat. Fabulous idea ! I haven't read through the thread but I just had to give a heads up to two fantastic subtitled drama series , both Italian I believe . Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah . |

Sky Arts has left BBC4 behind in the foreign drama stakes.
I am currently watching 1992, an Italian effort focusing on crime and political skulduggery in Milan during the eponymous year. They have recently shown some great non crime shows. The Legacy from Denmark and 30 Degrees in February from Sweden. I think it a great idea we have a thread dedicated to foreign drama.....better yet a sub forum. |

Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah . Check out 1992.......set in Milan around the same time and the actor who played Dante in RC is great as a crooked, sleazy cop. Corleone was another fantastic Italian crime drama. |

Do subtitles automatically equal quality to the point that all subbed drama can be lumped together?
The above is a case in point - Pretty terrible show as is Mentalbaldo (although sun-starved Brits seem to find comfort in gazing at the villas and the beaches), Salamander, Sebastian Bergman and a couple of others I forget the name of. |

if you only missed the first episode, then don't bother - it was terrible! however, the other episodes were very interesting and worth the effort.
Similar situation with "Crimes of Passion", terribly cliched first episode but improved immensely after that. K |

There is another Swedish one called Thicker Than Water, which stars the son of the wheelchair guy in 30 Degrees and is very good.
It hadn't been shown on British TV yet as far as I know. |

I started recording Inspector de Luca, can't remember now whether I got through the first episode but it put me off watching any more.
It was very good and it made me want to watch the second and third episodes when they were on the iplayer. I didn't see the first as it had already been deleted from the iplayer and I'd heard it wasn't very good anyway, so I figured I hadn't missed much! I enjoyed the other three though.

Did anyone see the Belgian series Matrioshki? It was on Sky Arts last year and it's still on Sky TV box sets.

This isn't going to be on BBC4, but I've just seen a trailer for a 10 part Swedish drama 'Jordskott' coming soon on ITV Encore. Has anyone heard of this series? It's new to me, I've never heard of it. The voiceover said it's "acclaimed," so watch this space!

Isn't "acclaimed" just a variation on "award-winning" ?

Has any network ever acquired a show that isn't "acclaimed" by somebody or other? They're probably making it up/exaggerating in lieu of any English reviews

1864 ends tonight. What comes next on BBC4?
What else is coming up in this genre is on FTA channels? There have been other series in the past but I haven't spotted any for months. |

Thanks KennyT. I assume you know what date this is on as it doesn't seem to mention it on that page.
Any other news of upcoming series on BBC4 or elsewhere (FTA) ? |

Channel 4 for have a upcoming French drama called The Witnesses but it been on in Australia and Canada already. But if you don't want too wait the show is on Daily Motion in subtitles and if you like Broadchruch it the one you need to see.
I would love to see BBC 4 pick up Denmark's latest drama The Team or Sweden's Blu Ogan. |

I enjoy Montalbano, not for the scenery, though I wouldn't mind living in his gaff. It's easy watching but not just fluff and I like many of the characters.
If you enjoy fast American dramas then European imports probably aren't for you. They're way slower. Hence the appeal to so many. |
