At last - a new European drama series. The last couple of weeks (since that Danish historical thing (not bad '1864' (not a holiday company!)) have been one-off films.

The first was something like Echoes of the Dead was quite good, about a woman who lost a child some years previously, going back to visit her father who she blamed for not looking after the child and uncovering the past. The following week was something I couldn't get into, didn't watch much of, and forgotten already.

But tonight and for the next few weeks on Saturdays at 9pm on BBC4:-

"Cordon: A deadly virus is discovered to be spreading quickly through the city of Antwerp. In Flemish with English subtitles."

Jordskott has got too odd for me too follow I have lost the plot. And it kind of reminds me to much of Canadian drama The Forst what was low budget wannabe Twin Peak, with the Wallander kind of crossover and I got bored and characters are very Wooden.Hopefully Cordon is abit better and got more interesting characters and does not ware thin.

I spotted "The Saboteurs" yesterday on More4 at 9pm and caught part 4/6.
It's about the WW2 raid on Telemark heavy water plant in Norway.
I thought it was good but I missed the first three parts as I wasn't aware of it.

Please consider posting a link in this thread to any new thread about something in this genre just to keep us all aware of new series. This is a minority interest and with no name recognition of new series it's easy for a thread not to be recognised and slip off page one and out of sight.

(A note to the usual people: yes, we all know that subtitles are no guarantee of quality!)

Cordon (dangerous virus alert in Antwerp) continues on BBC4 tonight.

I was out when it finished and recorded it.
(Must get around to watching sometime. Am I risking spoilers?)

Something different on BBC4 tonight: Young Montalbano.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise it was going to be shown so soon after the first. It was a strange series, the characters weren't very likeable. As the series went on you got to see why they were like that, although it was still hard to warm to them! It was a bit bleak with moments of humour and was well acted I thought.
I always felt sorry for Frederik (played by Carsten Bjørnlund aka "Major Blondie" from The Killing)

There's a feature-length Wallander movie on BBC4, Sunday 30th August @ midnight.
The White Lioness (1996) starring the grizzly, Rolf Lassgard as Kurt.

I did and I will keep watching it. It's a pity it has been shoved onto More4.

I've often thought we need a meeting point for fans of these dramas, not to discuss any one in particular but to announce and talk about what's coming up, which ones you enjoyed or would like to see and comparing different series.

In the past there have been series other than those on BBC4 and I missed the start because I didn't know they were onand didn't see the appropriate channel listings. You can't search for a thread igfyou don't know the title!

Please announce series here on this thread but for discussion of the 'current' ones in detail please start a thread and put a link in this thread.

Coming up tonight Montalbano 9pm BBC4. Not sure but probably a repeat.
Excellent idea for a thread. I love these subtitled dramas, I'm a dreamer so they help me concentrate and keep up with the storylines ( which somehow seem better than our dramas) . Romanzo Criminale was amazing.

Thanks MichPlat. I (mostly) love them too and I agree that having to read to understand helps me concentrate on the story while for English language ones I often zone out or watch when I'm online and only paying partial attention.

This thread depends on all of us who watch any of these dramas alerting the rest of us by posting a message here when they come across news of a subtitled drama. So please remember to post a message on this thread even if you also start a separate thread for a new subtitled drama.

Mike65: I did watch Resistance on More4 on Friday. It looks like it'll be good though I'm not sure yet. One positive indication is that I started to care about the characters!

I noticed they kept referring to Germans as 'the Hun' which feels awkward but was probably understandable as they were figures of hate in the minds of the oppressed French in occupied France. I forget now whether this was in subtitles only or whether I noticed it in their dialogue.

Anyway, detailed discussion of Resistance may merit a dedicated thread.

I'm still enjoying Young Montalbano repeats on BBC4 but there's only one left.
What's next?

Just to answer my own question, I watched episode one last night. Not bad, it moved along briskly and everyone was terribly handsome/pretty! (amazing how well turned out the locals are during wartime )

I got round to watching that this morning. I thought it was rather good but it might be interesting if there was a follow-up drama about people who collaborated rather than resisted

Next up is a Swedish crime drama called Beck which has been running on an off since '97

In the early 90s there had been a another series using the same characters in which Beck's sidekick Gunvald Larsson was played by Rolf Lassgård

Last night's Wallander was an enjoyable rip-off of Day of the Jackal I thought. Quite daring to not even feature Kurt until more than 15 minutes had passed. Threw me when it started off in English - Wondered if we were going to get some ancient dubbed version! Other than the usual ropey picture quality I didn't understand why it went out in a graveyard slot - Deserved better.

I'm just surmising, but do you think the reason it wasn't shown earlier was because of the use of the 'n' word?
