I'm just surmising, but do you think the reason it wasn't shown earlier was because of the use of the 'n' word?
Made in 1996! Different world back then. Weird to think some younger Wallander fans wouldn't have even been alive when this was made. |

In the book the Russian training the South African makes racist comments, and the book kept old South African placenames because the plot is time specific so I assume the comment was made in the context of the book of The Russian trying to see if the South African would break under pressure. Have it recorded so will see who says what - still surprised it got a graveyard slot with little to indicate it was to be broadcast

Picture quality was variable: poor to ok (and I'm not usually given to commenting with a modest TV watching in SD) but was it filmed on Super 8 then kept on the back shelf of a car for twenty years?
Apart from that I enjoyed the White Lioness a lot. Who'd have guessed it was going to be about post Apartheid South Africa and a black hit man hired by disgruntled whites to foment trouble and revolt and maybe regain power? Wallender played his part and though there were certainly shortcomings in the way it was all done, particularly the unlikely security and setting of the big event at the end it was well worth watching. Thanks for pointing it out, farmer bob. |

Through watching these shows on beeb4 I discovered the books, which is a real plus. |

Next up is a Swedish crime drama called Beck which has been running on an off since '97
https://thekillingtimestv.wordpress....he-first-time/ In the early 90s there had been a another series using the same characters in which Beck's sidekick Gunvald Larsson was played by Rolf Lassgård |

Are these from the Martin Beck books? I've read some and heard a couple on the radio and enjoyed them - I don't remember the sidekick's name though. Have they been on TV here before?
They feature Peter Haber as Martin Beck, and Mikael Persbrandt as his associate Gunvald Larsson. The Seasons, and their release dates, are: Season 1, 1997-98-- 8 films. Season 2, 2001-2--- 8 films. Season 3, 2006-7--- 8 films. Season 4, 2009------2 films. Season 5,2015--------4 films. The films to be broadcast on BBC4 are the four from Season 5. I have Seasons 3 and 4 on DVD, and am a fan of both the films, and the two lead actors. |

As far as I am aware, the films released between 1997 and 2015 are based on original screenplays.

I'm really enjoying Resistance. I'm gripped by it, so tense at times. The announcer said episode 3 would be shown on all4 but i couldn't see it.

Caught up with Ep 2 of Resistance this evening, really good stuff. The traitor really made an impact on the group, next week's show should be intriguing.
Did anyone notice the car they were driving across the "Demarcation Zone" was a right-hand drive jalopy, not left-hand as you'd maybe expect, being in France ![]() That aside, it's a very good production 👍 |

I watched part 2 of Resistance during the week and part 3 coming up on More 4 at 9pm.
Is there a thread for it? I don't remember where the info came from originally, unless it was me seeing a trailer. |

Here are some details of the real life Resistance group featured in the series Resistance
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupe...e_de_l%27Homme One member of the group died (comparatively) recently at the age of 100 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germaine_Tillion |

I'd never really given the French Resistance much thought until now. In other portrayals they're either seen briefly helping 'our brave boys' by passing them through several stages to return to good old Blighty and the War Effort, or the comedy version in 'Allo 'Allo along with non-scary comedy Germans.
In this Resistance on More4 I'm seeing their lives, their relationships, their risks, their losses, them being simultaneously brave AND fearful as their friends are dragged off to be brutalised by the Hun and lined up in front of a firing squad. It's brutal. |

Its very good isn't it? The kids are just that, forced to grow up quickly, spurred on by patriotic ferver and paying for it often through sheer naivety.

Les Revenants is also on More4 so it looks like Channel 4 have decided that More will be the home to serious foreigners with subtitles from here on.

They keep advertising the new series of the Returned. They say that the first series is available on All4 on demand, but I can't find it on All4 through my Sky box. Is it only available for download through the All4 website?
