Channel 4 have gotten the rights for German Cold War drama Deutschland '83

http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2015/09/chan...lter-presents/

This is also interesting

The series will initially premiere in the UK with a linear broadcast on Channel 4 before being made available exclusively as a boxset on Walter Presents (formerly known as 4 World Drama) – the VOD service C4 is launching in partnership with Global Series Network, which aims to be the go-to destination, at least in the VOD space, for high-end foreign language drama series in the UK.

Walter Presents“With its strong characters and bold storylines, Deutschland 83 is an ideal and key series for the Walter Presents launch”, said Jamie Lynn, FremantleMedia International’s Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Distribution for EMEA. “We’re thrilled to be working with the teams at GSN and Channel 4 to bring one of the most anticipated series of 2015 to the UK.”

Walter Presents will launch in January 2016 and will be available via Channel 4’s redesigned on-demand hub All4. The plan is for the service to eventually house more than 600 hours of foreign language drama. C4 execs will then cherry pick the cream of the crop for linear plays on Channel 4 or More4. Additionally, More4 will have a dedicated regular slot for such dramas.

Just a quick post to say I love quality subtitled drama - and that Spiral was the show that started it all - I missed the first series (seen it since of course) but from then on I looked eagerly for the next quality series on BBC 4.

The Killing (I cannot be arsed to give them their original names as I am in a rush), Borgen, Inspector Montalbano etc, etc.

All wonderful stuff.

And series three of The Bridge and the return of Arne Dahl are on very shortly.

Brilliant.

Just think..... if Spiral hadn't done so well (comparatively speaking) then BBC4 wouldn't have bought the rights to any of the others

Exactly it's frightening.

What really sealed the deal was the first series of Forbrydelsen - it became a phenomenon.

I only just noticed tonight is the last part of Resistance at 9pm.

Does anyone know if More4 have other programmes in this genre coming up?

One of the resistance members was caught, interrogated by Klaus Barbie and decided to switch sides

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Multon

He ended up working with the guy that betrayed the original resistance group that Lili worked with. One of the things they did was capture several resistants who were going to a meeting of various groups including that blonde woman Lili is now working with. Lili and some of the others tried to rescue her and partially suceeded but she was recaptured and ended up topping herself

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berty_Albrecht

One other thing was that Lili was taken to a secret meeting with a top resistance bloke who turned out be her father.

Really enjoyed Resistance, but was surprised/disappointed that in the final episode when information was being given about the various characters and what happened to them, no mention was made of Lilli or her father.

Very good series, surprised me in fact (though not sure why - the French make plenty of good telly when they put their minds to it), quite emotional at the end. The potency of cheap music!

I can only assume that those two characters were invented to help tie the plot together. At the beginning it says "based on a true story" which isn't a correct translation of the French. A correct translation would be "inspired by real events" which implies a lesser adherence to what really happened.

Excellent series though and has inspired me to read more about this episode in French history. I live in France but didn't see it when it was originally aired here.

I think the guy who betrayed the first group was also fictional although he could have been partially based on a guy named Robert Moog, a Frenchman who worked for the Abwehr

I watched the first episode of The Bridge when in Denmark last week. Awesome start and some new personal relationships to be built! I won't spoil it though of course.

Did anyone watch Arne Dahl this evening? Can't see a thread for it.
We thought it was just OK, a certain amount of disbelief had to be suspended
Most of the characters are fairly likeable, the new girl Ida was a decent addition.

Arne Dahl was a bit dull. Lacking any skill in finding evidence and relying on clichés of rookie cops doing daft things.
Where was the cleaner?
