Swedish darma at 10pm on More 4 from Thursday 3rd March:
Thicker Than Water Brand new series: Atmospheric drama set on an island. Determined to reunite her three children and force them to confront their past, Anna-Lisa initiates a plan. In Swedish/subs. (Ep1/10) I'm following Spin 2; anyone else? .... President in a coma and terrorist trouble at an oil refinery in Algeria |

I'm a sucker for this stuff (ie less critical than many here) but I'll report back later.

I used to wish I'd been born American but I'm beginning to wish now I was Swedish instead.
They sucked me in goddammit - I should be watching Stewart Lee instead. |

Haha "They sucked you in"? Yes good drama can do that.
People who demand *action* or something fast-paced would be disappointed with Thicker Than Water but I liked it a lot. It's all about a mother and her three adult children who weren't close, called together by the mother for an announcement. There's no deep fear or hatred but some bad memories and resentment. I can't quite see how this story can take 10 parts but it's got good reviews and part 1 was intriguing so I'll stay with it. |

I quite liked the vibe, the music and the summer flashbacks but the mother's gnomic utterances were annoying in the extreme and just smacked of a drama contrivance divorced from any resemblance to real life. Too many ad breaks for something of this pace made it difficult to keep hold of the thread which just shows how lucky we are that BBC4 takes many of the best imports.
I think Sunday night would be a better day for this. Thursday just seems all wrong. |

I think I spotted "Viktoria" (from The Bridge - Series 2) in Thicker than Water.

The next Swedish drama on BBC Four looks like it'll be a bit more "funky" and cool then the typical. Its also just four episodes long which is fine by me.

I enjoyed Thicker Than Water (10pm, More4). Is there a thread? I agree the mother was a bit frustrating but I'm following. |

I've often thought we need a meeting point for fans of these dramas, not to discuss any one in particular but to announce and talk about what's coming up, which ones you enjoyed or would like to see and comparing different series.
In the past there have been series other than those on BBC4 and I missed the start because I didn't know they were onand didn't see the appropriate channel listings. You can't search for a thread igfyou don't know the title! Please announce series here on this thread but for discussion of the 'current' ones in detail please start a thread and put a link in this thread. Coming up tonight Montalbano 9pm BBC4. Not sure but probably a repeat. |

I don't think I've got the will to stick with TTW. First ep not "grabby" enough and the thought of another nine weeks of 80 minutes worth of ad filled angst is not what I need right now.

There's Blue Eyes starting on Friday 25th March on More 4.
Maybe he means that. |

Genug ist genug. Let's have some German drama series, if there are any. It would help my understanding of my favourite language.

I've asked DS if there's any chance of a separate section/sub-forum for sub-titled drama, but just got the generic 'thanks for your reply......we'll think about it' type response. It would be really helpful to have all the threads in the same place as it's so easy to miss something. So many of us record/save programmes to watch later that we miss all the trailers for new imports as we fast forward through the ads!

I'm struggling a little with Thicker than Water. I don't mind a slow-paced drama, but I was hoping it would be more intriguing. None of the siblings are particularly likeable so I find myself not really caring what happens to them. I will stick with it to the end though in case it picks up. |

My favourite language too! Although, I also like the 'sound' of the Scandinavian languages.

I recorded the first two episodes of Thicker Than Water so I've yet to see it. I should watch it before I've got too many episodes recorded otherwise I'll lose the urge to plough through them! I did that with Deutschland 83 and I still haven't watched any of the episodes. I need to be more alert so I can concentrate on the subtitles At least they're all on Walter Presents so I may end up catching them on there instead so I can free up some space on the Sky box
