HTTPS The Pirate Bay and KickassTorrents now blocked on BT
Satellite John
21-03-2015
Less than a week ago this article was published, noting how the secure version of The Pirate Bay was bypassing the ISP blockade:

http://torrentfreak.com/secure-pirat...k-isps-150316/

Now, BT seem to have joined Sky in using a deep packet inspection system, rather than the previous Cleanfeed content blocking system. The secure HTTPS versions of The Pirate Bay and KickassTorrents are now blocked on BT.

Now ever previous workarounds such as using Opera Turbo mode, or a SOCKS web proxy set up seem to also be blocked. The only way I can get around it is by using a VPN (I don't like or trust the proxy versions of The Pirate Bay).

Yes seems Opera Turbo is no good any more so might be time to dump this if not much use now?
Only ZenMate goes for me.

BT have altered the DNS record of the HTTPS The Pirate Bay on the BT DNS servers to block it. If you want to continue to access HTTPS The Pirate Bay and HTTPS KickassTorrents, without a VPN, you need to change your DNS to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

I am on BT and just use Browsec on firefox when I want to access such sites.

I think BT will go further than that when blocking access to sites. The IT people at BT will know that some computer users will easily know how to change their DNS server. They're not that daft.

Blocking HTTPS without over-blocking other sites is actually quite difficult. Although, apparently Sky block IP addresses, so BT could follow them.

When will isp's learn to get a grip that this is a complete waste of time and pointless? there will always be a work around.

Well it's hardly the isp's fault. They are just following court orders. What do you suggest they do?

If it was up to the ISPs, they wouldn't bother. It's the idiotic film industry that's forcing them to through the courts. The film industry won't compromise on anything and is only interested in getting their own way on everything.

The ISPs are only following the court order and likely doing nothing more. They would rather not filter it (I remember BT's press release saying something like "Oh it would absolutely awful if someone were to circumvent the blocks, just terrible, we hope no one tries") but they have no choice.

I don't think the ISPs block new URLs for the pirate bay until the court tells them to.

Remind the court that, blocking these sites is like pissing in the wind. oh and we are planning to change the title of the service we provide, as we no longer provide complete internet ( interconnected network ) access now we are forced to block access to parts of it, so we can no longer pretend that our service is access internet. BT,sky,, virgin , etc, etc, etc we are a partial internet service provider, PISP, You can thank the government for the partial bit.

Spot on. I do think the case of the film "John Wick" should be held up as an example of how ridiculous the industry can actually be. released in the US last october, available to legally import weeks ago and it won't hit the cinema here for around another month.

And when it inevitably tanks, I have no doubts that the studios will likely claim it's down to piracy and not their ludicrous decision to delay the release by six months.

I'm sure they already have. Courts don't tend to listen and/or understand though.

I wouldn't be surprised if big amounts of money are being offered to judges in order to get every list of torrent sites shut down. Either that, or the judges dealing with the cases have no choice because they're blatantly against the law.
