At two different Three stores.

First guy I asked told me that they dont do upgrade offers any more, a recent change in policy apparently. He said they dont offer a new handset at a cheaper upgrade price/rate etc.

Second guy I asked a few days later said that when my contract expires, come in to the store and they will certainly be able to offer me a very good upgrade deal.

Anyone know ?

I went in seeing what I could get deal-wise on a certain phone, I was told a certain price "specially as an upgrade customer" and wrote down all the details.

Came home and had a search on their website, and this "special" offer was exactly the same as the standard new customer offer.

I'd say the second guy is just trying to get you to visit the store to try and sell you a standard pacjage i.e. probably the same very good upgrade deal shown on Three webite.

Call the the second guy when you're in a position to upgrade and ask to confirm the deal before you travel to the store. If he won't you have your answer.

In my experience you get the up front hand set price taken to zero but the rest of the deal is the same. The only special deals I am able to get are in tablets where the prices are different to what's on the web.

My advice. Don't bother talking to anyone who works for the company and do your own research first.

Employees of any company will be bias and just try to flog you any old deal.

My philosophy has always been to make sure I know more than the guy trying to sell me something (or just avoid the middle man altogether e.g internet).

This philosophy has allowed me to get amazing deals on all products like Mobile, Broadband, Gas + Electricity etc... By knowing more than the salesperson you're able to catch them out when they say something that is blatantly wrong.

Happened to me over the phone. The guy must think we are all idiots. I called up three, as my contract is expiring. We had a chat about how many minutes and data I use etc. Then he said they got a specially tailored plan for me, talked it up like I am getting some kind of specially put together tariff, but I had their website open with all the available plans, and he basically just tried to get me on the 12 months 200 mins unlimited data for £17. I told him that's not a tailored plan, it's basically there on your website. All I got was silence and I asked if they could do that plan as a one month rolling contract for that price, as I didn't want to be tied in to any contract again. He said no.

So basically no upgrade offers, but at the same time, they will try and dress up existing plans as an "specially tailored offer." Absolutely bonkers, and it totally pisses me off. I'm just converting my contract to a pay as you go sim and be done with it. I may or may not stick with it, also looking at other providers, such as Giff Gaff, Now Mobile, and The People's Operator. Three have gone down in my estimation, higher prices, slower 4G and piss poor retention deals, or lack there of. I've been a three customer for over a decade. There ya go.

I also do research and have got amazing deals on stuff but some of those deals are though talking directly with someone who works for the company. Comprison sites, cashback site or redemption deals via third parties are not always the best deal in my experience. So my advice is sure do research but also talk directly to the company because there's nothing to lose.

I agree. Hence why I said I need to know more than the salesperson I'm talking to. But do all the research before hand.

The golden rule is you can tell when a salesperson is lying when their lips move. Always do your own research and assume the salesperson is only acting in their best interests not yours.

There are some exceptions to this rule but mostly you have to assume you're being taken as a mug so be prepared before hand.

Thanks for the info, so looks like nothing special then, will find out in a few weeks.

I do like Three, and been very pleased with the service, just hoping to get a little extra.

Been with Three for 8 years. Contract ends today without a single call from them offering a deal. In previous years I had daily calls with offers. You won't get anything IMO....

Not sure how Three think this current strategy of there's is going work. I've just recently left Three for EE I was on a 24 month had to ring 3 separate times so I could be transferred to retentions department. They offered me no upfront costs but price was basically this same glad I left though it sounds lame 2G signal is very useful.

I see how EE can charge more because they have a far better coverage on 4G more spectrum etc but can't see how Three thinks what they are doing is right. Honestly with the network plan Three are doing when Vodafone are done they will have the far better network.

Three have different deals for new customers and existing customers. I was in the Three store today and got documents they had on display.

The guy said the new customer plans were often cheaper than the upgrade plans. Initially I didn't believe him. I was looking at the Galaxy Note 4 and indeed the new customer plan works out £21 cheaper over the course of 24 months. The only caveat is you pay more upfront initially for the phone. So here goes:

Galaxy Note 4 (new customer) 24 Months 600 Mins. All You Can Eat Texts and Data £41 per month plus £99 Up Front = £1083

Galaxy Note 4 (upgrade) 24 Months 600 Mins. All You Can Eat Texts and Data £46 per month and no upfront cost = £1104

Yes saves £21. May not be a fortune but just goes to show you

1. Our full range of phones and price plans effective 21 March 2015 (New Customers)

Outside Page

2. Upgrade price plans effective 21 March 2015 (Existing Customers)

Hope this helps someone

Not a surprise to me Three haven't been a cheaper option on 24 month contracts for a while now. I can't see why anyone would go with Three on a 24 month over EE at moment prices are very similar to be honest.

On SIM Only Three is better but I still prefer extras I get on my EE SIM Only deal.

I was coming to an end of my 24 month contract with EE. Went into EE to see upgrade options and left 5 mins later after salesperson did nothing to convince me to stay.

Phoned them the next day to see if they'd match an online deal through a third party - was told that they couldn't and didn't offer anything for 15 years of Orange/EE loyalty. "It isn't a loyalty matter" was what I was told.

Left it until yesterday, and following my brother-in-law's advice, I phoned up to cancel and look elsewhere. Was sent through to their 'loyalty department'/retention people and was offered a much better upgrade phone and deal, purely because I said I was leaving.

My advice - tell them you're walking, give them details of deals you have seen elsewhere and watch/listen to them try to keep you! If not, you walk, knowing that you have a deal you can take elsewhere.
