Me neither. Glad he retired. The only one I find funny out of the current crop is Conan O'Brien because he understands that it's not all about him. Craig Ferguson was quite funny also.

I think that's why these US chat shows will never be that successful over here. Their sense of humour is completely different. Mostly political satire and in jokes about stuff that has no relevance over here. Plus the guests are asked to take part in silly sketches or games that are mostly cringeworthy. Most of the hosts are not even listening to what their guests are saying. Corden and Fallon are always trying to be funnier than their guests. Interrupting them all the time when they are speaking.

I’m not surprised you like/liked Conan and Ferguson, both of their shows deconstructed the genre somewhat whilst staying within the talkshow format. Which is why it surprises me you didn’t like Letterman, as he did similar. Although I’ll admit Letterman was much better in the 80’s and early 90’s. I think he himself summed it up well when announcing his retirement – “I always said to myself, as soon as doing this show becomes a chore, I’ll quit 10 years later”.

Weird how Fridays ep didn't appear on demand last night and still not there this Sunday morning. Are sky holding back and trying to stick with a mon-fri feel like USA broadcasts?

I suspect some people will be confused this week too, as I believe new editions of The Late Late Show are only airing on Monday to Wednesday – so only 3 shows on Sky this week too. |

Yes, I know they usually put a repeat on tv but they don't put it online as it is a repeat.
So I assume Sky will do the same and just get the new episodes from them. |

You can always check who the guests are here: http://www.interbridge.com/lineups.html#LLS
BTW: Thursday and Friday are both repeats this week. |

I caught up on last week’s shows last night, I really enjoyed the plagiarism sketch with Corden do a Top Ten list in the style of David Letterman. I’m sure most UK viewers were wondering what on earth he was doing (licking his teeth, throwing pencils, continuously saying ‘poke-e-mon’ etc). but I found it quite amusing.
I saw on twitter that Jimmy Fallon sent all of The Late Late Show staff New York style pretzels to congratulate them on their Emmy nominations. I do miss the late night rivalries, but it’s also nice to see the various hosts all getting on and having respect for each other too these days. |

He still does homages to Letterman with "one of my own" and "great drums" or similar wording to that.
I did wonder if that show was some type of anniversary as they chanced the title sequence as well as doing the top ten. |

I did wonder if that show was some type of anniversary as they chanced the title sequence as well as doing the top ten. But this time it was a plagiarism joke... the day after Donald Trump’s wife gave a speech that was remarkably similar to one given by Michelle Obama a few years ago. So the joke was that Corden was ripping off Letterman – right down to having Letterman’s ‘Late Show’ theme music over their titles instead of their usual theme music. Like I said, I suspect most of this was lost on most UK viewers, but it amused me.

Apple Music has picked up the rights to the Carpool Karaoke spin-off programme.
The first season will consist of 16 episodes, which will be available to stream weekly on the Apple Music app. Only subscribers to Apple Music will be able to watch it. And James Corden himself will only have a behind the scenes role (maybe his CBS contract is an exclusive one?), with no news on who will be replacing him as host. http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/ne...-music-series/ The programme being picked up by Apple Music appears a bit low-key to me... I was expecting maybe a cable network to pick it up (similar to what happened with The tonight Show’s spin-off ‘Lip Sync Battle’). But maybe that’s a good thing, as it shouldn’t impact the segment’s popularity on The Late Late Show itself. |

I wonder why sky decided to just put it on demand rather than on sky1 for example

I agree that Jimmy Fallon has a healthy respect towards his late night rivals. I remember him making overtures to Craig Ferguson when their respective shows were still neck and neck.
Since moving to The Tonight Show, Fallon has also done a bit on Colbert’s first Late Show – taping a bit from his desk wishing him luck, which appeared on the large video wall behind Colbert. I actually really respect the way Fallon and his team approached Colbert’s premier on The Late Show. On the night of the first show, the Monday, Fallon just did a regular edition of The Tonight Show and wished Colbert luck I his new job – essentially giving him his night in the spotlight. Then on the second night, the Tuesday, Fallon essentially said, ‘right, ok, let’s do this, let’s play’ with a massive show featuring another ‘History of Rap’ bit with Justin Timberlake and a ‘Lip Sync Battle’ bit with Ellen DeGeneres (which beat Colbert in the ratings). Quote:
Shouldn't Colbert be doing that? James should start using that bell of his with Reggie.
![]() ![]() Ah, the bell! Regular readers of this thread will know I’ve got an obsession with the bell on Corden’s desk! I think it’s the same bell Craig Ferguson used to use on his Late Late Show, presumably given to Corden as a welcome gift, but I’ve never been able to confirm this.

Corden has been offered his own primetime slot for a variety show by CBS according to the DM because they don't want to risk losing him as he's been offered to take over another late night show on another network apparently .

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ight-show.html It seems a bit odd to me... they already have him in a contract for a number of years - so he's not going anywhere yet. So why do they need to try and convince him to stay with CBS now? And why a prime time variety show? If he's that valuable to them why no just give him a promotion to The Late Show (which is struggling in the ratings) and they could maybe solve two problems at once. I'm not saying that's what I would do (I wouldn't give him a prime time variety show either), but if CBS want to show him how much they value him wouldn't that be the logical thing for them to do right now? |

Hypothetical but may be they don't want put him up against the other shows at that time as the ratings for that slot might suffer.

Maybe his contract isn't exclusive to CBS.

Of course the news reports could be wrong, maybe CBS are going to do what NBC did with Letterman in the 80’s - give Corden occasional primetime specials of his Late Late Show (like the recent Carpool Karaoke one) rather than give him a brand new variety show. |

Completely. Corden is popular, but he’d be destroyed in the ratings if he went up against Jimmy Fallon. It’s just a weird (but sort of understandable logic) to say ‘we aren’t confident he’ll perform well at 11:30pm, so let’s give him a primetime show’.

I believe his current contract with CBS prevents him from being involved ‘on screen’ with a programme on any other US network. It doesn’t prevent him working on programmes outside the US or doing movie/theatre work (Late Late Show schedule permitting).

How do you know that?
Coden signed an initial 3 year contract with CBS, for a reported £1.5 million a year, running until early 2018. He also received a £650,000 ‘relocation fee’ to move his family from London to LA. Reports suggest his contract prevents him from working for any US network other than CBS, but allows him an agreed number of weeks a year to peruse/continue other projects that have been agreed in advance with CBS (such as A League of Their Own on Sky). His contract is for his work on ‘The Late Late Show’. Within his first 6 months he signed a 2 year extension, again for £1.5 million a year, but now running until early 2020 – making his 5 year contract worth £7.5 million. Reports have since suggested that due to his performance he’s received a pay increase, now making his 5 year contract worth £10 million. |
