Shame it couldn't have been on Comedy Central but he has a long term deal with Lionsgate who co-own EPIX so there could be more material on its way. He also has Celebrity Name Game which won an Emmy as best gameshow but this is more 'him'. Although it's a shame the plans for his early evening talk show were canned earlier this year

It’s just a one off. It’s basically just a broadcast version of his most recent stand up show. The last one was on Netflix, and the one before that was on Comedy Central, both are available on DVD though so hopefully this one will be too in time.

Celebrity Name Game starts its second season in September. I enjoy it, but my main criticism is that it’s too fast. Personally I think it would be better if it had a run time of 40 minutes rather than 20 minutes – no need to extend the game element, just allow Craig Ferguson to be Craig Ferguson and have a little fun with the contestants. But he’s probably getting paid very well for doing it (it’s in syndication), and it’s quite good – it’s just not The Late Late Show.

It’s a shame Craig Ferguson’s early evening talk show never developed, the US quite likes its ‘showbiz’ shows at 7pm (Extra, TMZ, Entertainment Tonight etc) so I thought a talk show might work quite well. Although the last attempt at an early evening talk show (by original Daily Show host and former Late Late Show host Craig Kilborn) The Kilborn File was axed after one short season.

In terms of other projects, Craig Ferguson is also the star of a new ABC sitcom called ‘The King of 7B’ which I think is still at the pilot stage.

Sadly not happening either

"Q: I saw you shot a pilot for ABC. Is there news yet on whether that's being picked up?

A: It's not going to go. I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when the network picked up "The Muppets," and I thought, well, my dark single-camera comedy about an agoraphobic in New York is probably not going to play on the same network as the Muppets."

Another game on James Cordon's show. Which to some will seem like more ripping off of Jimmy Fallon.

A good sofa yesterday (not that i've seen it yet). The three Emmy? nominees

Especially if the third guest is Nicole Richie. Compare the three of them to the interview the night before with just Gordon Ramsay and another guest. The conversation is more relaxed, less forced and more revealing. Similarly the English breakfast cook-off between Ramsay and daughter and James was a lot better than the idiotic Flinch which belings in a children's gameshow.

That was a good show. 3 great guests. He really does get some decent guests on his show.

It also helps that he's good friends with Gordon Ramsey

Well personally I enjoyed the episode with the 3 emmy nominees and even though the game did take away talk time they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

It seems to be fixed into the format of the show that they have some sort of sketch or game in every episode.

I thought the Singing Telegram was awful. I couldn't have told you that was Demi Lovato. I don't know how popular or famous she is over there or here but it seemed like the people they were singing to didn't know who either of them were either.

I also thought that Josh Charles didn't get much of a look in probably becuase Ramsay and Corden know each other and got most of the talk time.

It's also pretty boring that when a chef is on a tv show they have to have a cook off with the presenter.
Corden is up for a laugh and knows Ramsay so did kind of make it work but i've seen some terrible segments in the past where the host was obviously miffed at being made to waste their time doing it (Letterman may be a good example)

Couldn't believe it when i saw Gary Barlow appear on his show! Now that is just scraping the bottom of the barrel! When you go from Olly Murs to Gary Barlow? Lol. His musical guests are absolute shit.

Little Mix are the next X Factor acts on the show, the week of August 17th but there's also Morrissey and Robin Thicke that week which should get people watching.

I've mentioned it before in the thread but the musical guests are really UK heavy.

I know it's late (or early) and this might be a showcase for UK bands or up and comers from the US but they could do with some top music acts at times.

They don't seem to have a problem getting big name guests on the sofa or in the sketches every now and then.

Since his show began he's not had one single A/B-list musical guest.

Little Mix are on a US tour and think they have a fanbase over there but i wouldn't call them stars. Morissey is niche and Robin Thicke is passe. I'm surprised he hasn't had Ed Sheeran on, that would be massive as he is huge worldwide and A-list even if his music is shit.

I read this article a few weeks back and was reminded by it last night
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...TV-rivals.html

On A League of Their Own when he's signing off he spins his pen in his fingers then flicks it away. I'm sure i've seen another host do that. Letterman?

Also he's still using "Great Drums". Ok, it was ok to reference a classic line once when you were new or the Letterman leaving show but come on.

Also when he tells a joke and says "That one was all mine". Pretty sure someone else has done that before.

Homage is great but surely he needs something original?

The Car Karaoke segment. There's a youtube show from Grace Helbig where she did something similar with her friends.
Corden has been a guest on her show. Not sure if it was before he started his show.

His shocked look to camera at the end of the title credits. Amy Schumer does something similar. I know this is past nitpicking now

Then of course there's bringing out the guests at the same time ala Norton.

But the Buzzcocks thing was a straight ripoff. Even the descriptions of the lineup was in the same style.

Overall I like the show but it's not seeming very original - not that it needs to be. It's a late late night chat show and most tune in for the guests.

I really couldn't care less if he takes bit and pieces from other shows. Do you think the Yanks care? Not a jot! I still enjoy the show regardless. The Kevin Bacon segment was great! Nice to see it back now the show's been axed.

He also does an opening monologue, talks to the audience and looks into the camera when hosting. The unoriginal bastard.

Most things in TV have come from somewhere before. It's a fun show.

Who knows how true this is.

Quote:
“The British comedian has reportedly been offered an extra £3million to sign on for further two years, which will take his time on the show to 2020.

The Mirror reports that CBS bosses have been so impressed by its now 850,000+ YouTube subscribers and audiences in excess of one million that they're desperate to hang on to the star.”

Either way the bigwigs must clearly be happy which is nice to hear.

Also, last week he had Carl Reiner on his show who was full of praise for Corden. This is an old school guy saying he loves Corden. That's a pretty big deal in my opinion.

I do think he has to up the ante a bit. He has some features which i really enjoy, but others just fall flat and aren't that great. Having Reggie Watts with him is also a big plus in my eyes. There's plenty to tweak to make the show even better. Remember in the first week he recorded the show live from someone's house. He hasn't done that since. I would love to see that kind of randomness again.

Variety article on it.

We thought, ‘Has anyone ever done a show from YouTube, celebrating all the stars they’ve created?’ When we realized no one had, we thought, ‘Right. Let’s do it!'”

Well Internet Icon came close. There's also an aside about their ratings fall due to the weak lead-in. Although they don't seem bothered falling back on 'youtube numbers' surely they're going to come back fighting on September 8th when Colbert's show starts.

It wasn't very good. It was very much a wasted opportunity.

It was the worst show he's done.

They go off site for a live broadcast yet set it up looked as close as possible to the regular set.
Then had a bunch of internet nobodies who had nothing to say.

I’ve been catching up on episodes recently, but it appears James Corden and Patrick Stewart have made up after their very public falling out a few years ago – not only because Patrick Stewart appeared on the show but because they also did a comedy ‘magic’ skit together. Maybe they both thought it was in their best (career) interests to not hold a grudge.

I’m not surprised, that’ll keep Corden contracted to CBS until 2020. He’s made an impressive start, I’m sure they don’t want to lose him to a rival broadcaster any time soon, particularly as there’s no knowing how well Stephen Colbert will perform on The Late Show. Should Colbert not perform well I’m sure one of the options CBS might consider over the next few years is promoting James Corden – it’s unlikely I admit, but I’m sure they’d at least want it as an option to consider.
In related news, NBC has agreed a contract extension with Jimmy Fallon to keep him as host of The Tonight Show until 2021 – again not surprising at all.

Still no news on Sky’s rumoured interest in The Late Late Show...

Was his cameo for the Phantom of the Opera actually shown? Funny albeit a plug. I wonder how many Andrew Lloyd Webber productions are having revivals this year. I know Cats is too.
